Owner of Koru Healing Acupuncture, Tracey Shewan unfolds her curiosity into holistic healing after her father fell ill with terminal cancer, with Tracey discovering that foot massages helped her father.

This led Tracey onto pursuing spiritual teachings & seeking more beyond the natural elements leading Tracey onto studying acupuncture, massage and later reiki treatment.

Tracey experienced a dramatic spiritual encounter which Tracey says was a Kundalini awakening.

'Ali's Lemons' was birthed out of som**hing Ali was familiar and developed in from a young age - homemade cooking & baking.

Ali's Lemons creates traditional, artisanal homemade lemon products, winning a national award for her lemon curd.

Ali unfolds her pathway into becoming a high school teacher, how Ali's confidence grew and she learned to utilize her talents and gifting more after ending unhealthy relationship cycles.

Parentifying herself as a child, Ann-Marie Ferguson shares how she cared for her younger sisters from age five, whilst both of her parents suffered under the influence of drug addictions, mental illness and abusive behaviours.

Ann-Marie says her role being a caregiver at such a young age to her household caused her to become desensitised, especially when becoming a mother. Ann-Marie says she didn't feel the typical emotions of motherhood and learned to use "masculine energy" as a survival mechanism from a young age.

Ministry for Children, now Oranga Tamariki were aware of the environment of where Ann-Marie and her sisters were living, having numerous evidence recorded for reason to uplift the children, yet Ann-Marie and her sisters were not removed in time.

This Wednesday at 9am (NZT) on Voices Unhindered at Plains Media founder of Heart and Mind Yoga , Jo Jarden shares how the death of her mother shook her foundational beliefs leading Jo to leave living a life of "comfort" to live from a caravan for seven years.

Jo found out more about herself, her values and what fulfilled her during her grieving and through being a "fitness ju**ie" led her onto teaching yoga, personal coaching and health coaching to inspire others.

This Wednesday at Voices Unhindered I chat with Ursula Keay at 9am (NZT) on Plains Media about her experiences within New Zealand's media industry, going to broadcasting school and how a lack of boundaries and role models growing up led Ursula to being kicked out of home at sixteen years old.

Ursula sought to fill the void for identity, security and struggle with hypothyroidism led Ursula into the New Age practice of Ayahuasca in South America and then onto searching for faith in Jesus.

Former Royal New Zealand Airforce (RNZAF) aircraft technician and artist, Bruce Denton, who served in the RNZAF for 20 years from sixteen years old, is on Voices Unhindered this week.

Bruce struggled with dyscalculia, which meant he couldn't add or subtract properly and was labelled "dumb" and bullied yet this didn't faze him much.. Bruce was a dreamer and had a tendency to "look beyond" the here and now along with during his time serving in the RNZAF, where he spent most of his downtime sketching.

Looking back at his childhood Bruce says he believes he was forced to grow up too fast, causing him to miss years of his childhood and witnessing things he'd rather not see.

One of Bruce's earliest memories is his father taking him on som**hing loud and bumpy which he later found out was an aircraft.

Bruce's father also served in the RNZAF during WWII, yet his father never talked about his time during WWII, which Bruce believes was due to a likely post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and remembers seeing a bullet hole in his fathers leg.

One of Bruce's many pieces of amazing artworks are collected in his book, but I felt this one represented him best.

Coming up Wednesday at 9:00am (NZT) on 96.9 Plains Media my special guest, Shahana Tauwhare opens up about never having known her biological Dad and how this impacted her relationships, sense of identity and of belonging.

Shahana says she held a grudge against her mother due to her closing the door to knowing her natural dad along with her mum's choices separating Shahana from her stand-in Dad growing up; yet Shahana through receiving Christ's forgiveness realised that she had to extend that to her mother, which began Shahana's process to wholeness.

This week I have two grandparents raising their grandchildren, Anna Clare who raises two and Ferne Caldwell is raising eight!

We chat about the events which unfolded to Ferne and Anna coming into caring for their grandchildren and both having the options of choosing between state care or raising them themselves, they say that the former was not an option for them.

I was raised by my grandparents most of my life, so I relate to the struggles of grandparents and l look back at the times with my grandparents as some of the most cherished memories of my life ❤️ I know my grandparents felt a strong sense of calling to raise and impart into my life from a young age, and I'm so blessed they did.

When many grandparents expect to retire some have to find their second-wind to keep going to raise another generation!

To provide their grandchildren with a stable, secure and loving home is what motivated Ferne and Anna to care for their grandchildren and hats off to them!

Entrepreneur, writer and mother, Sheena Hemens, joins me on Voices Unhindered as we chat about her upbringing in London to Sri Lankan parents which immigrated to a very British London during the 1950's.

Outwardly Sheena's bubbly, glamorous and friendly yet has overcome early childhood years her personality being repressed. Sheena was the only kid at her school with darker skin which led Sheena to be bullied along with having a father who was emotionally absent and an alcoholic(who passed when Sheena was seventeen) all took it's toll on Sheena's self-worth.

Sheena says she buried herself in 📚 books during childhood as an escape mechanism as well using writing stories as a mechanism to use her voice.

Sheena founded the former Christchurch French-inspired restaurant, Maison de Crepes but in 2023 lost her business, along with the heartbreaking loss of her daughter, Lauren Hemens and faced a break-up which caused Sheena to suffer an emotional breakdown.

Despite her life's hurdles, Sheena says it has caused her to realise the frailty of life, reflect on what matters most and to refocus herself towards what brings her purpose and fulfillment.
