It's that time of year! The grey ghost is due her 200 hour service so wanting to get it sorted out before we head north!

Well that's the last night shift done and dusted for 5 months. A exciting break from ambulance work to get to spend some great family time and adventuring in the Marlborough sounds.

These boots have been with me for four years now and they probably paint an accurate picture of how I feel about work.

They still work,they do what they are designed to do and they are reliable.

However they are getting tattered, worn and in need of either TLC or replacing.

So it is a fortunate timing to get to spend 5 months away from ambulance work, the longest I have been off in 16 years. I am really looking forward to what the next 5 months hold and to return to work rejuvenated and excited to do the job I love!

Standby for some epic adventures and amazing experiences coming!

Who has trinkets or talismans they take out boating and fishing? Pros and cons to both. But might make this my new one. Turns out Daiwa was in the genes as I found my grandpas old fishing bag and had one of these still in it.

So it's found a spot in my fishing bag in the hope it brings me some of his good luck he had fishing!

Keeping with special moments. A friend of ours has for a second time poured her heart and mana into creating a special Korowai for Atlas.

This is a traditional Maori ceremonial garment that In this instance we got for Atlas going into his bigger daycare class same as for Ocean. Helen who made both these for ours boys incorporates the love of the ocean and sea into the pattern with peacock feathers to represent the cresending sea.

A very special garment for both boys to have forever and embrace their heritage.

15 years.. the time has flown by. There are many highlights.. plenty of lowlights. I have seen the grimmest parts of people's lives, been there for births, deaths and everything in between. It is a privilege to share the struggles and joys with my wife.

A summer break is going to be great from ambulance work. A welcome refresh and can't wait to share some more adventures and then return to a job I love!

Lots of love to all that received medals and honours tonight at the Southland St John area awards. 520 years of service there tonight with 30 years between Sam and I!

Redemption came early after a failure of a brisket! Tomohawk smoked steak on the traeger 780 pro. Finished with a reverse sear with butter garlic and rosemary. The most succulent tastiest steak I have ever made!! Traeger Grills

Well I thought it was gonna be a cake walk but my First brisket didn't turn out how I thought! The Traeger worked perfectly and made everything easy but the brisket just didn't render or soften. Unsure if it was a poor cut of meat or if I wrapped in too much butcher paper. But that's ok will have to try again. Any tips or tricks to getting a good brisket? For info this was cooked 4 hours unwrapped at 80 then wrapped and 105 for 6 hours. Any advice appreciated! The plus is the fish wings and belly turned out beautiful and only took an hour at 100. Smokey and delicious !!!

Well that's a wrap for the 2025 ski season! Been some epic snow and some proud dad moments with Ocean and his skiing! Managed 9 days up which is always an achievement with kids and shift work!

Bring on 2026 with Ocean and also getting Atlas to test the waters!
