The next project that is going to see the light of day is my video series on my recent holiday to the US. I took loads of video while I was there filming everything that might be of interest, I might have gone a little overboard which you can see from how many files I have, but at least I have plenty that I can work with. I will be releasing six videos in total staggered out over a few weeks, I will release one at a time and then work on the next one. Its going to be a lot of fun, I had a great time while I was there and I look forward to sharing some of the experiences, I have to warn you, many of these relate to food, I had so much American food and drink I had to try! I will try and post the first video in the next week or so. 🙂🇺🇸

I can now announce my next project. This is one that I have been quietly working on for the last seven years. A book on the Featherston Prisoner of War Camp covering the whole history from the beginning of the camp right through to when it was used for the tunnel diggers, dairy workers and emergency housing in the 1980s although it will primarily be looking at the time the Japanese were there. And going against everything I have done before, I already have a title for the book and have designed the cover. It will be called Horyo and feature the kanji on the cover, this translates to "prisoner of war". I wanted something Japanese for the title and this is perfect. I am aiming to launch this in mid-2027, that should give me plenty of time to produce a quality and thorough publication.

In 1982 a time capsule was buried outside out library, I had the honour of being the one that got to open it and help conserve the contents which includes a very... interesting drink driving advert from 1982

📚🎬 Thank you to Mark Pacey of Wairarapa Archive and Gosson Publishing for a "Creative Double Feature" last Sunday!

Local author and filmmaker Mark, delivered an inspiring workshop, sharing his journey through planning, writing, (self-)publishing, and promoting his 11 books—many of which you can find right here in our library!
His booklet on publishing (pictured) was provided for all workshop participants.

The afternoon continued with a screening of Mark's powerful documentary "Never Forgotten: The Marines of Masterton", a moving companion to his latest book "Our New Zealand Home".

Thanks to everyone who joined us for this celebration of storytelling in all its forms! 💬✨

Now that the last two weekends have come and gone I have to give a big shout out to Jane from Wairarapa Film Festival for all her hard work and dedication. She helped make one of my dreams a reality, not only by helping be get my first documentary off the ground but also by screening it at the film festival. Also due to the strong interest in this film it was shown three times to over 200 people. I am very honoured to have been a part of this festival and I thank everyone that came along and supported the documentary and the film festival. 🙂
