Week 4....From the pool to the Moana 👌🏾🌊
A cold winters day in Wellington wasnt enough to keep us out of the water and for majority of our crew this was their first ever sea dive. Transferring our new skills learnt at the pool...equalising, finding the sweet spot with our bouyancy and even hitting PB depths ranging from 6-7m and doing it safely 💯🌱.
Welcome to the realm of Tangaroa boys, we hope you grow to love it as much as we do🙏🏾 🌊❤️
We also want to give a huge mihi to the broz from MPI Fisheries - Hawke's Bay/Wairarapa/Wellington/Taranaki Marky and Dean for your continued support and coming to share your mātauranga with our new crew 💯👊🏾

Week 3 in the bank and we are proud to say that we now have 8 more Rangatahi in our community certified in Adult,child and Infant CPR🌱 Big shout out to Whaea Kathy for giving us your time and knowledge to ensure our new crew can respond accordingly in the event of an emergency 🙏🏾
To finish out the week, the boyz completed the last of our pool trainings and are now ready to transition their new skills into the moana👌🏾
We appreciate you guys pushing through the cold, tired and uncomfortable moments that present themselves in our colder months brothaz, keep on smashing it 👊🏾💯

Kia Ora Koutou,

It is with great sadness that we share the news that one of our long time loyal followers, friends and honorary Brotha of Tangaroa - Rick Murrell of Invercargill who passed away this week in a tragic boating incident.

Rick was a true waterman, a confident & competent diver & boatman who had a passion for the Moana. His happy place was to be in Doubtful Sound, A place where his Tūpuna have a deep history. His best life was spent there on his waka with his whānau or friends.

From our crew, our aroha and thoughts go out to the Murrell whānau & friends at this difficult time ❤️

Rick...may the sea always be flat for you, the visibility good & the kai Moana plentiful bro🌊

It's that time again whānau! Hī Ika Cohort 4 is officially underway👌🏾

Our first winter cohort and our first year running back to back programs to try meet the need we have here in the Wairarapa for our Rangatahi..Greatful to our organization Tū Ora Compass Health who make it possible for us to do what we do, our whānau and community that continue to show up and support our kaupapa and lastly a massive mihi to our Rangatahi and their families for arriving in our space .

It's been one hell of a ride brothaz and we are super grateful for your commitment to the kaupapa, your trust in us and your ability to shift amongst the chaos of those old ways of being, feeling and seeing....🌱

Remember though my broz, the tools we have today only work if we're willing to pull them out of the kete and put them to work🌪🌀🌊👌🏾

Yesterday was our last dive for this cohort and our kaupapa was to gather some kai to share with our whānau when they come back into our space next week for the first time since we started our journey... ✅️

Week 11 Camp/overnight stay at Rangiwhakaoma (Castlepoint) done and dusted earlier this week whānau ⛺️ we didn't have the best weather to work with but we made do.... It was about being together, having fun and reflecting on some of the awesome mahi we have done on our journey at Hī Ika and the memories we have created along the way.. 1 more week till graduation brothaz so let's keep the ball rolling for our last mission 🌊🌱👌🏾 Big mihi to our Kahungunu whānau for letting us set up a base at the old school grounds and the manaakitangi while we were there.

Another busy week for the young Brothaz at Hī Ika🌱 Huge thanks to the teams from Pathways and Whānau Ora/Whaiora for coming in to share with the group the services you provide for Rangatahi and how you can further support them on their journeys🙏🏾
Tuesday morning we headed over to do our final skill test in the Taputeranga reserve where the brothaz got to demonstrate their breathing up techniques and how to equalize at depths ranging from 6-8m, a huge achievement for the team👊🏾 from there we wrapped our week up by doing a dive at Breaker bay and the Brothaz all got to get in and gather a nice little kai to take home to their whānau 👌🏾
Lastly, i wanna give a big mihi to our tuakana Cordell from cohort 2 for coming to give us a hand and sharing some tips and tricks to help the new crew along the way, we appreciate you 💯 brotha.... Thanks for another week my broz and learning more skills to add to your kete.
