"WE THINK ONE OF YOUR HOUSES IS BEING USED AS A BROTHEL AND A DRUG HOUSE..."
THAT WAS THE PHONE CALL.

Moments like this were part of the reality in the early days of RAW.
Walking into houses not knowing what you’d find.
This is the work most people don’t see.
Because breaking the cycle of crime isn’t simple.
It means working through chaos, survival, and behaviours that have been normalised over generations.
RAW exists to change that.

To break New Zealand’s cycle of intergenerational offending, educational underachievement, poverty and violence for a group of disadvantaged women.

Through inclusion, community and opportunity, we are building hope, purpose and prosperity one woman at a time.

Creating tino rangatiratanga.

SHE LENT HER CAR TO SOMEONE SHE TRUSTED. A FEW DAYS LATER, IT WAS GONE.
SOLD....TO PAY A DEBT.

That’s the reality we are working in RAW.
When crime and survival have been normalised, the rules most of us live by don’t always apply in the same way.

This moment from Ep 19 of Stretton Unfiltered shows what sits underneath repeat offending and why real change is much harder than people think.

THE EARLY DAYS OF RAW WORKING WITH WOMEN IN CRISIS WERE A MIX OF INTENTION AND UNCERTAINTY. WE HAD EDUCATION PATHWAYS. WE HAD JOB OPPORTUNITIES.

But we were still figuring it all out.
Working outside the box with women coming out of prison, trying to create something that actually worked.
It wasn’t perfect.
But it was real.

And today, RAW is a lifelong support system helping women coming out of prison to rebuild and change their lives.

GAINING INSIGHT INTO A WORLD OF CHAOS AND STRUGGLE CHANGES EVERYTHING.
HEARING WHAT LIFE ACTUALLY LOOKED LIKE FOR WOMEN LIVING IN CRIME, CHAOS, AND SURVIVAL.

The question became:
What if we built something beyond crisis?
Something that created real opportunity
for women who would never expect it?

That moment became RAW.

ROCK BOTTOM IS REAL.
AND IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE WHERE THE STORY ENDS.
This part of the conversation is a powerful reminder that change doesn’t happen all at once. It’s a decision, made over and over again, to keep moving forward… even when it’s hard.
To keep looking for something better.
To believe there are still good people and good spaces out there.
But in the end, the work has to come from within.
You have to want it.
And you have to choose to live it.

YOU ONLY KNoW WHAT YOU KNOW...UNTIL YOU LEARN SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
AND ONCE YOU DO, YOU CAN'T UNSEE IT.
This moment in the conversation really stayed with us.
Because it’s the point where everything shifts.
Where understanding turns into responsibility… and change becomes a choice.
For Missy, that shift didn’t come easily. It came after years of survival, trauma, and living in a world where there was no light at all.

A conversation that challenges how we think about behaviour, trauma, and what’s actually possible.

FREEDOM ISN'T ALWAYS WHAT PEOPLE THINK IT IS.
AFTER SPENDING 37 YEARS INSIDE INSTITUTIONS, STEPPING BACK INTO EVERYDAY LIFE ISN'T SIMPLE.

Spaces most of us move through without thinking… like supermarkets, crowds, or busy environments… can feel overwhelming and completely out of control.

This part of the conversation really highlights something we don’t talk about enough.
What happens after someone is released.
What it actually takes to rebuild a life.
Missy shares what that reality looks like, and the quiet strength it takes to navigate it every single day.

🎙️This is part of the latest episode of Stretton Unfiltered.
A conversation about trauma, survival, and what is still possible.

THIS EPISODE ISN'T EASY LISTENING...BUT IT'S AN IMPORTANT ONE.
MISSY'S STORY IS ONE THAT CHALLENGES HOW WE THINK ABOUT CRIME, ADDICTION, AND INCARCERATION.
It begins in childhood, shaped by violence, instability, and systems that were meant to protect her, but often reinforced the very behaviours they were trying to change.

By nine, she was in state care.
By her teens, she was already navigating addiction and survival.
By her twenties, she was serving a life sentence.
But this conversation isn’t about what’s wrong with someone.
It’s about what happened to them… and what is still possible.

Now, Missy is navigating life outside after decades inside institutions, asking a powerful question:
What does freedom actually look like?

NOT EVERY ENDING IS A FAILURE, SOME ARE JUST...COMPLETE 💗
After 7 years of building from Silverfox MGMT New Zealand modelling agency, from just 11 to over 100 models Rebecca made the decision to close the business.

Not because it wasn’t working
But because she knew it was time
There’s something really powerful in that

LIFE DOESN'T STOP FOR WOMEN ANYMORE… IT SHIFTS.

Travelling.
Studying.
Starting again.

In this conversation, Rebecca Swaney shares what she’s seeing in women right now, and it’s powerful. A generation redefining what the next chapter looks like, on their own terms. It’s not about slowing down, it is stepping into what’s next. On our own terms.

Annah sat down with Rebecca from Silverfox MGMT New Zealand modelling agency to talk about what life can look like as we get older.

This episode of Stretton Unfiltered features Rebecca Swaney, who owned and built NZ based SilverFox MGMT modelling agency for women 30+ that helped to change the narrative.
