Church, Culture & Conversations That Matter
🎥 Watch now on YouTube 👉 https://youtu.be/zrpuqOVnbMQ

On Cam’s Reflections, we sat down to talk about the realities of church culture, the danger of unchecked leadership, and the power of asking questions.

💬 Why do we still teach in ways Jesus didn’t use?
💬 Why are some leaders afraid of being questioned?
💬 Can we disagree in love and still belong?

We also opened up about parenting, friendship, and raising a confident daughter in today’s world. One of our favourite highlights: Eden played golf at two of Wellington’s most beautiful courses ⛳️ Royal Wellington Golf Club and Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club. It reminded us that memories are built in the moments, not just on Sunday mornings.

🕊️ We’re learning that difference is beautiful, and we don’t have to dim our light to belong.

🌿 Puketi Rainforest Reflections

🎥 A raw conversation on Acts, church culture, and honest faith
This morning, Gill and I had a devotion in the rainforest, cold air, clear minds, and deep questions. We read Acts 2 and started unpacking what it really means to speak in tongues. Not hype. Not confusion. But understanding.

And from there... it got real.
💬 Why is it hard to disagree in church without being labelled ungracious?
💬 Why do we elevate pastors to near-godlike status?
💬 Why is no one asking for the gift of interpretation?
We discuss hype culture, spiritual pressure, and how genuine faith must make room for thought, questions, and even differences. There’s beauty in disagreement, if it’s held with love and truth.

🙏 This is for anyone who’s ever felt silenced, confused, or pressured in a faith space. You’re not alone. And it’s okay to question — God can handle it.

Hey friends 👋

In this honest and light-hearted chat, Gill, Eden, and I reflect on 15+ years of experience in property investment, sharing the highs, the heartbreaks, and the hard-earned lessons we've gathered along the way.

🎙️ From managing rental properties in South Africa to now being tenants in New Zealand, this video dives into:
✅ What it really takes to be a responsible landlord
✅ How to choose tenants wisely (and avoid sketchy ones 😅)
✅ Why we now prefer renting properties without fridges and ovens
✅ The importance of ethics, grace, and human dignity in the housing game

This isn’t just about houses and money, it’s about people, justice, and doing business with a conscience. We’re also teaching Eden the ropes early!

📢 The True Cost of Immigration: More Than Just Money 💭✈️

Moving to a new country is an adventure, but have you ever considered the hidden emotional and psychological costs? 🌍💔

While we often focus on the financial aspects, housing, job security, and expenses, there’s a deeper reality: saying goodbye to family, missing out on important moments, and navigating the emotional rollercoaster of starting over.

In this first episode of my new series, I reflect on our immigration journey and what truly cost us financially, emotionally, and mentally. Whether you’re considering moving to another country or city, this series will help you count the cost and prepare for the unexpected.

The dispossession of Indigenous land, from the Khoi and San in South Africa to the Māori in New Zealand, has been justified through philosophical and legal frameworks that often overlooked communal stewardship and sustainability. In my latest article, I examine how the ideas of John Locke and Karl Marx, while influential, have been applied in ways that perpetuated inequality rather than justice.

But what if we looked beyond these frameworks? Drawing on biblical teachings, particularly from the book of Amos, I explore an alternative moral perspective that prioritizes equity, ethical governance, and reconciliation.

Let me know your thoughts! How do we achieve true justice in land ownership and governance?
