If you've followed Mike's books for a while, you'll already know he has a bit of a soft spot for birds, especially our wonderfully quirky New Zealand natives. They pop up throughout his stories because he never seems to tire of watching their antics, their personalities, and the curious things they get up to.

This time, it's the turn of the ever-confident pūkeko. Whether they're strutting about as if they own the place or getting themselves into the most entertaining situations, they've provided Mike with plenty of inspiration over the years.

So, here is another of Mike's cheerful little rhyming ditties. He hopes it leaves you smiling!
‘Goodness gracious, what’s happening to me?
I really feel disjointed,
If I can’t get my act together,
I’ll be sooo disappointed.’

After an 18-month break, Mike is back... and happily causing trouble again.

He's well, he's writing, and every couple of days he'll be popping in with one of his short, silly little ditties. They're always funny, always in rhyme, and just the thing to raise a smile.

"What do you think it is Kai?"
"It's a spaceship that landed there."
The delights of a five year old who then elaborated on his story as I hung out the washing.
"We could write it and put it in a book Nana".
"Yes we could Kai."
" But I think it is a bit short Nana but take a photo just in case."
And that is the glory of young children just like our grandchildren who are growing up surrounded by shelves of books and regular trips to the library. Their world is so full of imagination and infinite possibilities. It is beyond wonderful, don't you think,?

Absolutely elated today! We watched a video of three fabulous pre schoolers (1, 3, 5 years) enjoying Polar Bear Soup having made it with their equally fabulous Mum. The recipe comes with the wonderfully quirky and highly original book 'Polar Bear Soup' by Mike and Tricia Legg and makes learning to read, and developing the love of books, interactive as well as delicious!

Tricia was supposed to be mowing the lawn but.... the birch tree bark has fabulous colour and texture at the moment and her artist's eye just had to stop and admire. Now how will this pop up in one of Mike's books in the future.. it may just be a colour scheme or is it the glorious skin on one of his wonderful creatures? Mmmmm.
