Having in mind the little ones in the family and, also, to make them a part of your life for a long long time, they are made with reinforced stitches and safety eyes that will not come apart...ever! STORY: Hello everyone! My name is Paula, I was born in the beautiful city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, but after living in several places around the world, we decide, with Lucas, my partner, to settle in the beautiful city of Queenstown in New Zealand. I started creating crochet dolls in the year 2015 after I found an Amigurumis magazine while I was working. I had no idea that there was such a thing so I started digging and searching more and more information about this amazing world. I fall completely in love at first sight with this craft. Everything started as a way of giving life to all these creatures that live in my head, but soon after, my friends began to ask me for dolls, for them and to give to others, and so Onpoki was born...with the mission to return to the old days, where all the toys were made by hand, with love and feelings and not in a cold mass production without life.

I was asked to make 24 dishcloths for a lovely shop in Gisborne that focuses on reusable and eco-friendly products, always with an ethical approach. 🌿✨

What looks simple actually has quite a process behind it: I don’t just crochet each piece, I also “activate” the cotton by soaking it for 12 hours and then block every single one so it’s neat and ready to use. It’s been taking more time than I thought, but I’ve learned so much along the way.

Once my new website is ready, I’d love to share a more technical post about which stitches work best for dishcloths, balancing time, yarn use, price, quality… and other little things I discovered in the process.

For now, I’m just enjoying seeing these 24 dishcloths come to life 💚

Me pidieron hacer 24 dishcloths para un negocio hermoso en Gisborne que se dedica a vender productos reutilizables y ecológicos, siempre con un enfoque amigable con el planeta y hecho de manera ética. 🌿✨

Lo que parece simple en realidad lleva bastante proceso: no solo tejo cada trapo, también “activo” el algodón remojándolo por 12 horas y después bloqueo cada pieza para que quede prolija y lista para usar. Todo eso lleva más tiempo del que imaginaba, pero también me enseñó muchísimo en el camino.

Cuando termine mi nuevo sitio, quiero hacer un post más técnico sobre cuáles son los puntos que mejor funcionan para este tipo de trapos, pensando en rendimiento, cantidad de hilo, precio, calidad… y algunas cositas más que fui aprendiendo en la práctica.

Por ahora sigo tejiendo y disfrutando ver cómo estos 24 dishcloths van tomando forma 💚

Among all the things I’m doing at the same time (Yay me who can’t focus on just one thing 😅), one of the most fascinating is this: mushrooms!
Every time I read or discover something new about them, I get this lovely chill… like there’s something way bigger going on, something we haven’t fully understood yet. They’re magical, curious, and strangely emotional to me.
So I’ve decided to start a small crochet collection inspired by these incredible beings.

I went to the library with my kids (we go there often, it’s one of our happy places) and borrowed all the mushroom books I could find. I also joined the winter reading challenge, so I’m happily busy ❤️📚
The first one I’m designing is the blue pinkgill (Werewere-kōkako in Māori), and my notebook is already full of notes and doodles.
I’d love these mushrooms to keep us company all year round… though autumn still feels like the perfect time to find them on our walks. 🍂

And as I go deeper into this world, I’ll be sharing the most beautiful or surprising things I learn along the way.

Entre todas las cosas que estoy haciendo al mismo tiempo (Yay yo que no puedo concentrarme solo en una cosa 😅), una de las que más me tiene fascinada es esta: ¡los hongos!
Cada vez que leo o descubro algo nuevo sobre ellos, me da un escalofrío lindo… como si fueran parte de algo mucho más grande que todavía no entendemos del todo. Son mágicos, curiosos, y me despiertan una emoción rara pero hermosa.
Así que decidí empezar una pequeña colección tejida inspirada en estos seres increíbles.

Fui a la biblioteca con mis hijos (vamos muy seguido, es uno de nuestros lugares felices) y me traje todos los libros sobre hongos que encontré. También me anoté al desafío de lectura de invierno, así que estoy felizmente ocupada ❤️📚
El primero que estoy diseñando es el blue pinkgill (en maorí: Werewere-kōkako) y ya tengo cuaderno en mano con notas y dibujitos.
Me encantaría que estos honguitos nos acompañen todo el año… aunque otoño sigue siendo el momento perfecto para descubrirlos en nuestros paseos. 🍂

Y mientras vaya avanzando, voy a compartir por acá las cosas más hermosas o sorprendentes que vaya aprendiendo.

I’m finishing up a special order and just had to share this tiny heart that’s part of the design.
Can you guess who it belongs to? 👻

Honestly… crocheting tiny things makes me a bit tense (though it's really not that hard to make me nervous, haha).
But when I see the result… oh, I love it. I’m wildly passionate about miniatures ❤️
Anything at all, even if it’s not special… if it’s mini, I go crazy for it.
It’s been like this since I was little. And don’t even get me started on miniature city models… I could stare at them for hours.

Anyone else obsessed with tiny things? 🥹

La verdad… tejer cosas tan chiquitas me tensa un poco (aunque tampoco es taaan difícil ponerme nerviosa, jajaja).
Pero cuando veo el resultado… ay, lo amo. Me apasionan con pasión las miniaturas ❤️
Cualquier cosa, aunque no sea nada importante… si está en versión mini, me vuelve loca.
Me pasa desde que soy chiquita. ¡Y ni hablemos de las maquetas de ciudades! Me quedo horas mirándolas.

This little Han is already on his way to his new home in the North Island of NZ.
And since I’m an all or nothing kind of person (which... do I love that about me? Hmm… not really), I decided not only to go back to designing cute patterns, but also to making dolls to sell again!

Back to the roots… when I loved imagining where each doll would end up, sometimes receiving photos of them in tiny hands or sitting proudly on a shelf.

I probably won’t post many photos of orders here (maybe just a few), but I’ll share more on Facebook, since for now I’m planning to sell only in NZ and Australia. Shipping from here is way too expensive and I always feel awkward explaining the prices.

I have a few dolls in my Felt shop already (https://onpoki.felt.co.nz/), and I’ll be adding more soon.
I’m also slowly working on my own shop at onpoki.com so I can offer better prices and keep everything in one place. Doing it all by myself, so it will take a bit.

For now, NZ and Aus can get Han (and more coming soon) on Felt.

Este pequeño Han ya está en camino a su nuevo hogar en la isla norte de NZ.
Y como soy así, o todo o nada (cosa que no sé si amo tanto de mí...), decidí no solo volver a diseñar patrones lindos, sino también a hacer muñecos para vender.

Volver a las raíces… cuando me encantaba imaginar a dónde iría cada muñeco, a veces recibiendo fotos en manitos pequeñas o en estantes nuevos.

Seguramente no suba muchas fotos de los pedidos por acá (quizás alguna), pero voy a compartir más en Facebook, ya que por ahora solo planeo vender en NZ y Australia. Enviar cosas desde acá es carísimo y siempre me da vergüenza explicar los precios.

Happy Star Wars Day!

We went to the toy museum in Wanaka today and there was a whole retro Star Wars section. Loved it! I’ve always had a soft spot for the Star Wars Micro Machines… I had a few when I was little, no idea where they ended up.

And, like every year, I’m planning a Star Wars movie marathon (of course)... but honestly, I don’t know how far I’ll get or if I’ll even finish one. I’ll have to wait until both kids are asleep before I can start.

What do you think is a good age to show the original trilogy to your kids? There are fights, but nothing too graphic or intense... I think?

¡Feliz día de la Guerra de las Galaxias!

Hoy fuimos al museo del juguete en Wanaka y había todo un sector de juguetes retro de Star Wars. ¡Una locura! Siempre tuve una pasión por los Micro Machines de Star Wars. Tenía algunos de chica… ni idea dónde habrán terminado.

Y como todos los años, pienso hacer una maratón de pelis de Star Wars (¡obvio!)… pero siendo sincera, no sé hasta cuál voy a llegar o si siquiera voy a terminar una, porque voy a tener que empezar cuando los dos peques estén dormidos.

¿A qué edad les parece que está bien para ver la trilogía original con los chicos? Hay peleas, pero nada demasiado gráfico o intenso... creo.

About a year ago, I said it was almost ready to publish… and then I vanished. Some really hard things happened in my life and my family’s, and I just couldn’t create. The spark was gone.
It’s taken time, but little by little we’ve been finding our way back. Things aren’t perfect… maybe they don’t need to be. I’m learning to keep creating even when everything feels out of balance, which is hard for me. I tend to function best when things around me feel calm and “in order”… which is pretty ironic, since my mind (and my room, and my stuff) are usually a total mess 😅
Now, that little spark is returning… so here he is at last: the little Jedi in training from The Mandalorian.

Hace más o menos un año, conté que estaba casi listo para publicarse… y después desaparecí. Pasaron cosas muy difíciles en mi vida y en la de mi familia, y simplemente no podía crear. Esa chispa se apagó.
Nos llevó tiempo, pero de a poco fuimos volviendo. Las cosas no están perfectas… y tal vez no hace falta que lo estén. Estoy aprendiendo a seguir creando incluso cuando todo parece fuera de lugar, lo cual me cuesta. Suelo funcionar mejor cuando todo a mi alrededor está en calma y “en orden”… lo cual es bastante irónico, porque mi cabeza (y mi habitación, y mis cosas) suelen ser un caos total 😅
