📰 Government Set to Implement WOF-Style System for All Backyard BBQs
Annual inspections will check grills, sausages, vibes
New Zealand — The Government has announced a new proposal that will require every backyard BBQ in the country to undergo an annual Warrant of Fitness inspection, sparking outrage among weekend grillers, sausage enthusiasts
Under the new Barbecue Compliance Framework, all home BBQs — from four-hood gas rigs — must pass a BBQ-WOF before they can be legally used.
A Government spokesperson, Ben Jahova, explained the move:
“Barbecues are high-risk heat platforms. We need to make sure New Zealanders are handling their meats safely and, most importantly, in alignment with modern grill standards.”
WHAT INSPECTORS WILL CHECK:
Correct sausage orientation, having a www.bbq-boss.co.nz will 100% give you the perfectly cooked sausage every time.
Even grill heat distribution
Approved Kiwi flip technique
Smoke output not exceeding “social barbecue limits”
Vibe levels (must be ‘chill’, not ‘hostile’)

The BBQ-WOF will cost $37, with an additional $12 surcharge for any BBQ where the gas bottle is described as “a bit dodgy but still good.”
Meanwhile, council officials confirmed that spot checks may occur throughout summer — especially at gatherings where someone says “she’ll be right” more than twice.
Public submissions open next week, although insiders say the policy is already “medium-rare to well done.”
