We checked out the new Destination Play at Kawaroa Park yesterday, what a fantastic asset for our region! This is only Stage 1 of development, and already it has to be the best playground we've been to! There's lots to see and do - water play, slides, climbing frames, rock walls, hills/tunnels/bridges, sand pit, swings, fitness course, pump track, BBQs, picnic areas, ocean lookout, new toilet block. Really looking forward to seeing Stage 2 & 3 once complete.

"Destination Kāwaroa is an initiative of the Taranaki Foundation in partnership with mana whenua of Ngāmotu, Ngāti Te Whiti, New Plymouth District Council and NP Partners, a legacy asset for future generations to enjoy. It is a family-friendly experience that brings the unique nature, culture, histories and stories of the site playfully alive.

An on-site blessing was held in March 2024 signalling the beginning of construction, and Stage One officially opened on 18 December 2024. This moment in history signified a milestone for all those involved in bringing Destination Kāwaroa to life, with the story still to be finished.

With Stage One now open, we are now looking to secure the remainder of Stage Two funding. We have successfully secured over $6.86M in funding for the project with just over $100,000 still to raise. Stage Two delivery is underway but will not be completed until the remaining funding is secured.

As we move forward, we invite you to consider contributing to Stage Two and help bring the full vision and legacy of Destination Kāwaroa to life. We are committed to creating the very best of New Zealand here in Ngāmotu, New Plymouth.
