Ending the year with a very gracious outlook on my film world - what a year it’s been!

Much like this beaded lizard I embroidered for the Snap Shot Shorts screening in Hamilton this year (at many points challenging and tedious), the outcome was beyond worth it (rewarding, beautiful and learnt a lot about myself)

I am deeply grateful for all my fellow collaborators this year - thank you for your trust! We made some damn great stuff 👌

I have so much I can’t wait to show you all with Snap Shot S2. There’s so much to share and I believe the anticipation will be so worth it. We’ve really stepped it up and is a notion to how genuinely amazing the community is.

For now, I hope everyone is having a restful summer’s break! See you all in the new year!

I guess I can call myself an award-winning filmmaker now… 😌

But seriously?? What?! This is so exciting! Thank you to the whānau 🥰🥹 I’m gutted I couldn’t be in Auckland last Saturday for the ceremony, but shout out to my lovely friend for being the BEST spokesperson!

Massive thank you to my creative village. Receiving this award would not be possible without the hundreds of generous and talented creatives that I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside for the past 5 years. I am a collage of every person I’ve had the privilege of working with and I take a little piece of everyone, everywhere I go! I am grateful 🫶

Snap Shot Shorts S2 production has officially wrapped!!!

We did it, again.

8 months. 6 short films. Hundreds of talented cast and crew. Many memories, friendships, challenges and celebrations. It’s been an adventure of a lifetime.

How lucky I feel that we’ve been able to do this a second time round. We’ve been very secret squirrel about what we’ve been cooking up, but trust me, it’s worth the wait. S2 has stepped UP.

More words to come! But for now, sleep, paperwork and post-production. And, a celebratory Loosies cheeseburger, of course.

October! How fruitful you have been! Amongst very early crew calls and cooking many breakfast sandwiches for cast and crew, it’s also been a month of feeling like I live at the Embassy! Many screenings were attended!🫡

Went to the screening and saw my pals from .nz screen their INCREDIBLE film “Temporal” for the first time ever! An excellent night of top tier short films! 👏

Had the privilege of attending the Wellington opening night for Rob and Vicky’s “Pike River” with my friend (who was right in insisting we bring tissues - my goodness!!) It was an outstanding film, the space it holds for the 29 men lost that day is powerful. Even more special to watch the Q&A with both Melanie, Robyn AND and the two inspiring women that they portray, Solene and Anna. 🙌

Also repped Team Kākāpō at the Grand Finals that were on Saturday and it was such a fun night! A great line up of films and so stoked for all the winners. I always am blown away by what can be achieved in the span of 48 hours! 🤩

And a special mention to the film “One Battle After Another”. A very interesting film that was a great cinema experience and paired well with a gigantic bucket of popcorn and a choc top (eat them together, trust) 👍

Excited to share this news with you all! A producers internship with under the guidance of the amazing Vicky Pope!

“The Write Room Film/TV producer internship program is offered in partnership with Toi Pōneke Arts Centre, POP Film and the Wellington City Council Aho Tini 2030 Arts, Culture and Creativity Strategy.

The internship runs from 20 Oct 2025 – 20 August 2026 and comprises of script assessment and development meetings alongside the writer, director and producer to learn the instincts for what makes a good script to pursue for development; facilitation and attendance at a script read-through and 3 x one-on-one meetings with Vicky Pope on aspects of producing.”

Excited to share this news with you all!

Toi Pōneke Arts Centre and Pop Film are delighted to announce Elizabeth Hodgson who has been selected to be the Film/TV Producer Intern for the Write Room 2025.

Elizabeth Hodgson is a 24-year-old producer and assistant director. Originally from Tauranga, she has called Wellington home for the past 6 years now. Since graduating from Massey University with a Bachelor's in Creative Media Production, she’s produced two seasons of the independent short film series, Snap Shot Shorts, alongside a myriad of other short films, music videos and other creative projects.

Elizabeth will be helping to select the Scriptwriter in Residence for 2026.

The Write Room Film/TV producer internship program is offered in partnership with Toi Pōneke Arts Centre, POP Film and the Wellington City Council Aho Tini 2030 Arts, Culture and Creativity Strategy.

A warm haere rā / hej då to our wonderful friend and collaborator, who’s heading back home to Sweden!

Simon has worked with us on a few .shorts for the past couple years now, notably helping us with stunt choreography but recently as an intimacy coordinator too!

Thank you so much for your guidance and expertise for our young filmmaking community, Simon! You’ll be dearly missed! We hope you have lots of fun continuing to swing swords around back at home 🇸🇪⚔️

Super stoked to share that “Joy, Full & Fearless”, a beautiful documentary that I worked as a director’s assistant, is now out for the world to see! 💛

I rarely work in the non-fiction world so when I had this opportunity come up - I knew I had to make it happen! Non-fiction work is so different to narrative filmmaking and I learnt so much! I really enjoyed being a director’s assistant for Clare cause it meant I had so much variety of work! From sitting in the sun at Clare’s house watching hours of Joy’s VCR home videos, to learning how to create beat time stamps and then hunting down hardcover versions of Joy’s books - it was all a blast!

Kia ora everyone! While this account may be quiet, my life hasn’t been!! We’re deep into production for .shorts S2!!! I thought I’d do a cheeky update post to let you all know what I’ve been up to!

There’s some new followers on this page - so hello!! Welcome!! If you haven’t gotten to know me yet - I’m Elizabeth (fondly known as Lizzo or Lizard). I currently produce .shorts (an indie short film series) with my best friend Shayden from 🎬 and we’ve completed production on 2 out of the 6 films we’re making for our second season of Snap Shot this year!!

These past few months have been so crazy!!! I’ve barely found any time to sit down and actually SHARE with y’all all the exciting things we’ve been doing for S2!! So here’s a quick summary: 👇

- At the end of this month we completed production on both “The Thing That Washed Up” and “Hover” (Insanely awesome crews and the footage is looking wildddd 👀)
- Learnt a LOT in the past month about filmmaking. Taking every day as a blessin’ and a lesson, cause it’s all part of the journey.
- Have also CATERED for both productions thus far, taking many notes from my catering connoisseur 👩‍🍳 (I basically live at Moore Wilson’s now)
- Learning how to feed 50+ crew and learning about PORTIONS 😮‍💨 the current go-to’s are nachos, soups, sloppy Joe’s and lasagnes! Filling, tasty and easy to make loads of!

Feeling oh so appreciative for the sensational crew members that have participated so far - what talent!! I am in awe! If you wanna be a part of our sets, HMU, it’s incredibly easy and we welcome all experience levels and departments in Pōneke!

Looking forward to tackling these next four films. Bring👏It👏On👏

And if anyone needs film catering - genuinely hit me up, my love for cooking and film have finally combined and I make a mean veg lasagne (just quietly 🙂‍↕️🤌)

A joy to be on ‘Beyond Massey’ panel and an honour to share the stage with creative powerhouses Sophie, Oberon and Kate! Super awesome to hear how life after film school works differently for everyone and where people end up!

Last night I had the privilege to attend a fantastic screening of three short films hosted at Massey! I had the pleasure of working on “A Very Good Boy” written and directed by - an intensely talented short film debut from Sam as a part of A Wave In The Ocean program.

Fun fact - I actually worked as an office intern on AWITO back at the end of 2022 when they had just launched the program for the first time and the directors were just kicking off their filmmaking journey. Such a great full circle to be asked by to jump on this film last July for continuity! Had a blast developing those skills further and look forward to giving more opportunities like that a go! (Shot .cotterill for the mentoring 😘 - best scripty I know)
