SURPRISE! Out today is a musical match from above, Shayne Carter and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. REforms is a retrospective of Carter’s songs (with one new composition) orchestrated with Tane Upjohn-Beatson and recorded with the NZSO.

The album originated from Carter’s collaborative concerts with the NZSO, where he curated a programme of his favourite classical works for the first half and then played a selection of his own songs with the orchestra for the second. That concert was itself the result of his intensive exploration of classical music leading up to his 2016 album Offsider, made up of piano-based songs, all written as he learnt the instrument from scratch.

The heft and glory of the NZSO collides with the Shayne Carter songbook. Ten tracks ‘reformed’ in orchestral technicolour while maintaining the integrity of the originals. Classic songs like Randolph’s Going Home and If I Were You spar with new numbers like Left To Defend. Guitar and orchestra...

Dick Move's third album 'Dream, Believe, Achieve' is out digitally, on CD and on vinyl this Friday 14th November and available at all good record stores.

Over 200 tapes from the Flying Nun and the Chris Knox collections have now been digitised and are available to listen to in the Wellington National Library reading room. Ever wondered about how multitracki tapes works? Now you can learn all about it. NEXT FRIDAY IS BATS DAY! Join us to celebrate the release of new album Corner Coming Up on Friday Oct 17th. The day starts with a breakfast time launch of the album and a new music video produced by Rob Stowell. In the afternoon The Bats will play live for Jessie Mulligan on RNZ. Then at 6pm, The Bats will perform live instore at Flying Nun Chch, 143 Tuam St. Free entry, see you there!
