Cape Kidnappers, Gannet Safaris Overland. What an amazing field trip at the HATA conference. Finishing off at the Te Mata Peak restaurant for the HATA BGM

INTERESTING FACTS:
1: The farm on Cape Kidnappers has an 11k predator fence.
2: The fence cost 1 Million dollars per km to build due to the cost of the chopper needed.
2: They estimate 300 plus kiwis now inhabit the area.
3: Gannets mate for life.
4: An adult gannet weighs about 2.5kgs but a gannet chick weighs double as it has to fly to Australia as a young bird, in one go, no stopovers and uses the stored fat and food for the journey.
5: Gannets can dive up to 70ft and on entering the water have inflating pockets of skin on their neck.
6: They also have a second eyelid that covers their eyes to protect them when they hit the water.
7: The Māori name for gannet is tākapu

Wow I haven't posted on here for so long! You may not have realised but I'm now alongside running my freelance business, working for the Agribusiness in Schools programme and the Sow the Seed Aghort Science Advisory Team as their Marketing and Branding Manager, so yes life has not left much time to do posts!

Here is a conference logo I've just finished for them and I'm excited to get stuck into all the cool merch like tote bags, a t-shirt and stationery!

Lovin it!

So I am still here! Definitely get in touch if you need some work done!!

Happy Friday peeps!!

Straight out of the box!
I'm like a kid opening a birthday present when I receive a print job.

I always get it sent to myself so I can quality control the colour, clarity and trimming.

And it's also a good idea to triple remind a client that what it looks like on screen ain't what it's gonna look like as a printed hard copy (such superb English!)

I use a CMYK pantone matching booklet which is usually spot on.

Colour inspo!

When designing a new website a good way to get the creative juices flowing is to just have a play! Kind of like a warm up before a run, I like to create a bit of a photoshop or Indesign collage, and mix and match potential colour palettes using the eye dropper tool and the images.

That's why it's also very handy, if not imperative to have all your photography sorted before you start.

In this case I'm also designing the logo and overall branding so I'll need to make note of the CMYK percentages and also check my pantone booklet to see what the colours actually look like in the flesh. Although digital printing does vary quite a bit from printer to

So here's a bit of background about me.

A few years ago now (cough splutter) I gained a degree at Waikato Polytechnic, in Media Arts, majoring in Graphics and my first real role as a designer was in-house brand and packaging designer for Nutra-life Health and Fitness in Auckland. A fantastic job, where I met some great people...one who ended up being my bridesmaid and the boardroom drinkies with our hilarious CEO on a Friday night were second to none!

A year later & somewhat reluctantly to leave a great job, I was off on my "Big OE" (with my now husband) and gained further experience working in the Uk for agency Pearl Fisher Advertising and as a brand designer/developer for fashion labels Hackett and Henri Lloyd. Again what a blast, working in a centuries old brick warehouse in the middle of old London! Such cool memories.

After travelling the globe four years later and a stint working as a chef on the super yachts, my next best and most awesome job yet was Graphic Designer for Independent Liquor New Zealand, (now Asahi Beverages ). A year later I was promoted to New Product Development Manager and Brand Manager for one of their most successful brands, Mudshake. Perhaps you remember it? 😉

This involved running a studio of Graphic Designers and overseeing production of all packaging and production requirements in a fast paced successful company that liked to fly by the seat of it's pants!

Those were the days when petrol and company entertainment cards were the norm and yes working for an alcohol company definitely had its perks. But the best part about that job was again the friends made and the people met. One which after leaving turned into a client for 14 years and the other ended up being god mother to my first born (such a talented gal!)

Reluctantly I had to leave - to raise a family, bless their little cotton socks 😂 as I was up the duff 😂 and this was when Catherine Bryant Design, my thriving little design studio was also born. I might just add that I worked up until 8 months pregnant, just saying!

And that's it in a nutshell basically 😂 Still highly passionate about design and forever learning and growing!

I'll let you in on a little secret, sometimes us designers have a slight freak out when their clients printing arrives from the courier lol.

It's because missed mistakes stand out like dogs balls when you see something in the actual flesh!! 😂 and another little secret is I'm not the best speller!

Fortunately these are looking awesome and I'm very happy with the nice black satin finish.

I often get my clients printing sent to myself so that I can fully check printing quality before passing it on. Just a little bit of the perfectionist coming out in me, and wanting to provide only the best to my clients.

An email signature is an important element of your marketing campaigns. It shows your brand personality, introduces the person behind emails, and provides necessary contact information.

Professional email signatures look best when they are kept simple and short. That's why you should try and limit your signature to 3 to 4 lines of text, mentioning only the essentials like full name, job title, and contact information.

Here's one I prepared earlier😆
