There’s a price for inaction…

Did I miss the boat?

Last year, I began experimenting with my golf brand.

It’s well documented I love golf and I love building brands, so this side project was scratching all my itches.

However…. Something happened.

huffer brought out a golf sub brand. But that wasn’t the issue.

It was the logo. Do you see a resemblance?

Or am I being too precious?

Either way there’s a bigger point to this announcement.

DON’T SIT ON AN IDEA!

I have people talking to me everyday about the new projects and new businesses they want to build.

And a lot of them don’t see the light of day.

Then before you know it someone has done it and you have a ā€œwhat ifā€ moment.

Passion stalls.

Progress stops.

Your idea dies.

But it’s not died because you missed the boat.

It’s died because you’ve found a bunch of excuses not to move forward.

I’ve been sat on this post for a while.

It’s time to bring my golf brand to life.

It might not end up being Honest Golf but the story, the idea and essence will remain the same.

Looking forward to this šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

I’m pretty damn lucky!

So much is going on in my world right now.

It’s Ramadan. I’m on day 27 of fasting.

It was my birthday on Monday.

My mum and dad are visiting for 5 weeks.

Staying with us too.

Busness is in growth mode.

My personal brand is gaining massive traction.

I’m hosting my second golf event next week.

It’s pretty full on.

And I couldn’t do any of it without the people in this photograph.

When I’m down they pick me up.

When I doubt they remind me of where we are.

When I achieve they are my biggest supporters.

When I need a hug they are always there.

When I go too hard they realign me.

I don’t have a huge family. You are looking at most of it here.

For the people out there who think the answer is to go it alone.

That was me 7 years ago.

Now there’s no question you go further together.

With a support system that can weather any storm ā¤ļø

Have a great day 🫔

12 years owning Nim - the brand agency

Not sure that’s right?! šŸ¤”

Mainly because the first 2 years nim WAS NOT a business venture.

I was 100% a glorified freelancer.

Working all over the world designing brand identities for small businesses.

From a beach in Thailand to a snow lodge in Vancouver.

Year 1 really started when all of this had to stop.

When we got busy.

We needed to build a team.

We needed to be an actual agency.

Here’s the next 10 years in a snapshot

šŸ‘‰ Found a cheap office space
šŸ‘‰ Hired my first designer
šŸ‘‰ Hired my second designer
šŸ‘‰ Moved to a newer office

šŸ‘‰ Strategy Workshops where born
šŸ‘‰ Hired a videographer
šŸ‘‰ Build our internship program
šŸ‘‰ Team of 6

We all hear that businesses die or thrive after 2-3 years.

I’m proud that we have weathered the storm and been able to move forward.

Has the agency world changed? 100%

Have we?

Yes.

So what next?

We will lead the way for industrial businesses to create brands that will allow them to scale and own their position in the market.

The next 10 years is about becoming a global leader šŸ’ŖšŸ’ŖšŸ’Ŗ

How do you define yourself in business?

Because I had no idea.

Had a coffee chat with Sarah Byron-Wood today and the question came up.

Am I a…

Business Owner. Founder. Artist. CEO. Creative Director. Strategist. Managing Director?

This started a waaaaaay deeper conversation.

When you have ā€œfinished lifeā€ what do you want to remembered as?

First, we asked ChatGPT

Apparently, a Multipotentialite.

ā€œAn entrepreneur, artist, creative strategist and speaker who builds businesses and inspires others.ā€

While I like the definition, the word is a bit of a mouth full.

How about

A Creative Inspirer.

In everything I do, I do these two things.

I build businesses, try to inspire people, and live a life of creativity.

Job titles are a funny thing.

They can either give you status or they can pigeon hole you.

As business owners I believe we are more than one conventional job title.

We have to be to be business owners.

So when you end up in a box what do you want to be remembered as?

Make this your ā€œjob titleā€ moving forward.

We have the ability to sway AI 😳

And old school marketing helps.

I was doing some research this morning and I googled ā€œthing I googled + reviewsā€

AI told me the ā€œthing I googledā€ was great, well received by attendees, boasting massive exposure bla bla bla.

Then I looked at the source.

All the information was drawn from the business I googled.

It wasn’t until I got on to page 2 of Google I seen true reviews.

And they were bad!

So 2 things for you AI savvy businesses out there.

1. Create articles and posts about your business. AI is picking it up and distributing to searchers. ā€œOld schoolā€ works 🤣

2. Don’t just take AIs word for it. Look at some true review/other sources.

And a bonus tip seeing as it’s Monday.

Live up to your business ethical standards people! Be great in what you do.

Don’t be the ā€œthing I Googledā€ 🫔

Have a great day

How often are you on vs in the business?

I made a massive shift when I found out.

My time in the business was way too much so I made the call.

Every decision I make for nim creative will be one that removes me from ā€œin the business.ā€

I did some reflecting and planning.

Here’s 3 things that will change everything!

1. Buy back rate - Divide your annual income by 2,000 to get your hourly rate, then divide by 4.

If you’re doing $17/hour work, and your buyback rate is $70/hour, you’re losing $53 every hour

List 5–7 tasks you’ve done this week that cost less than this rate. Delegate them.

-

2. Focus on high energy + high value tasks.

Plan to spend at least 50% of next week on them.

Make a conscious effort to delegate everything else.

-

3. Audit → Transfer → Fill

Audit: Identify low-value or draining tasks you’re doing.

Transfer: Delegate or outsource them.

Fill: Plug the freed time into high-impact work you enjoy.

Repeat weekly.

-

If you are a business owner managing a small team you can do this over the weekend.

It’s powerful and it’s changed everything for me.

Give it a nudge and have a great day 🫔

Every meeting I’m talking about AI.

And I love it!

AI is impacting every sector.

I’m biased, but I believe it’s impacting the creative industries the most!

Things are blowing up and it’s super exciting to be part of!

You can quote me on this…

ā€œThe biggest imaginations will win AI.ā€

Storytelling, scriptwriting, filmmaking, content creation, advertising, entertaining, all of these have been tools for attention.

Attention is how businesses win.

Now with AI, businesses can create anything. All it takes is a super specific prompt.

Focus on every little detail and let your imagination run wild.

The imagination part is key!

šŸ‘‰ You can get to market with offers quicker and in spectacular fashion.

šŸ‘‰ You can execute high-end content at insane volumes and 10x your awareness.

šŸ‘‰ You can test and fail faster for less time, money and effort.

But remember this only skyrockets if you have big imagination!

Imagination and authenticity are going to drive businesses forward and it’s your obligation as Business Owners, Founders, CEOs etc… to take full advantage.

And if you need to borrow some imagination, I’ve got plenty to go around šŸ˜‰

Massive shout out to Ronnie Hira Leighton Wilson and Paul Stockton the chats have been thought-provoking and inspiring!

They’ve got the credit card

They’ve got the brief and now…

They’ve got to get creative!

I’ve tasked the junior designers to go out and ā€œbe creative with your contentā€.

Over the last 3 months these creatives have been getting up to speed with agency life.

They have learnt our branding processes they have refined their design skills and now…

It’s time for some brand storytelling!

Building brands is never just about the aesthetics, or the offering.

It’s about the why. Building your story.

And for designers out there looking to step into a brand agency, knowing how to tell a story is super important.

I’d argue that it will separate you from your competition when applying for design roles.

Now, let’s see what they come up with.

I’m sure you will get to see everything they create over on nim creative

Will AI make design and marketing obsolete?

My heart says no… but my head…

yes!

There’s no question AI it takes things to a whole new level.

It’s moving at lightning speeds and getting better and better everyday.

So while my heart says designers and marketers will be safe, the reality is, for those who don’t adapt and upskill you’ll probably get left behind.

But Obsolete?

Not a chance.

Will core parts of the job change? Definitely. But will you still need to do execute. 100%!

No matter how much a business owner asks ChatGPT to write a message or create a marketing plan, one thing wil remain the same.

They will not want to waste their time or energy learning new platforms to execute everything Chat tells them to do.

AND

They can manage what they don’t know, so hiring cheap, inexperienced labour isn’t viable either.

So no to obsolete - IMO.

—

I - for one - have upskilled massively since the introduction of AI.

I was born in the era of you had to know a bit of everything, be damn good at one and own it.

Now, with AI I’m not only damn good at my core skillset set, I’m damn good at a huge host of complimentary skills that make me more of a weapon in my space.

I love that our industry embraces and builds of AIs capabilities.

Excited to see what happens next.

—

Hope this was useful.

Have a great day!
