Album of the Week: Bleachers – everyone for ten minutes

Bleachers are back with more Jersey rock. Jack Antonoff’s project lets him let off steam in Springsteen-esque tracks designed for guitar-god sweaty performances. And nothing wrong with that. Although he hasn’t surpassed the pinnacle that was Take The Sadness Out Of Saturday Night yet this is a solid collection of tracks. Antonoff is pushing the boundaries of what a Bleachers record is....

Album of the Week: Lemon Twigs – Look For Your Mind!

As if Stephen Sanchez wasn't retro enough for last week's Album of the Week, this year we have another two effort - songs about heartbreak, devotion and the steady creep of the surveillance state. This is The Lemon Twigs sixth album and they have gradually built a significant following for their wonderful 1960's-esque power pop. This one has lots of Byrds/Beatles vibes and just plain catchy songs that are pleasure to listen to....

Album of the Week: Stephen Sanchez – LOVE, LOVE, LOVE

In a week of two wonderfully retro new releases (check out The Lemon Twig's new one Look for Your Mind!) we tossed the coin and chose Stephen Sanchez' second album. What a follow up. Apart from the annoying capitalized titles (sorry, pet peeve!) this is a wonderful collection of songs developing his sound while staying rooted in classic influences. Despite an array of producers (Oscar Görres (OZGO, also executive producer), Rami Yacoub, Mattman & Robin, and others (including contributions from Max Martin) the album manages to convey a unified sound....

Album of the Week: Meghan Trainor – Toy With Me

Recorded last year shortly after Meghan gave birth to her first child (what a lady!) and following 2024's Timeless, she described it as her "most honest and fearless" yet, drawing from online criticism, motherhood, and a desire to create feel-good, empowering music that makes listeners feel "unstoppable," safe, and happy—like childhood comfort with a danceable twist. New Zealand Net Radio plays a song from our irregularly updated every hour from 9am to 12pm. Listen in at on the web player.

Album of the Week: Noah Kahan – The Great Divide

Recorded at The National member Aaron Dessner’s Long Pond Studios (inspiration for Taylor Swift’s Evermore and Folklore) this is Noah’s fourth album. This might seem like earwormy pop folk designed for playlists (which it is) but there is substance to these songs, evoking separation from home and identity. The album has garnered an overwhelmingly positive response from fans with two days at the top of the Spotify charts and a likely #1 debut on the Billboard 200....

Album of the Week: Charlie Puth – Whatever’s Clever

Charlie's had a busy time - marriage, a brand new baby, Super Bowl LX anthem performance and a residency at the Blue Note Jazz Club last year. Puth produced his fourth studio album with BloodPop, aiming for "Yacht Rock 2026". He pulled out all the stops to achieve that, recruiting collaborators like Kenny G, Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins, and achieve it he did....

Album of the Week: Dermot Kennedy – The Weight of the Woods

Dermot Kennedy's third album is a rootsy affair for the Irish artist. We love his story - picked up a guitar at 10, writing songs at 14 and busking on Grafton Street (Dublin) at a young age. The soaring gospel-tinged opener "The Weight of the Woods (Reprise)" is glorious, and the album explores themes of home, loss, hope, and personal reckoning across tracks like "Honest," "Funeral," "Endless," and "Sycamore." A grounded and resonant album....

Album of the Week is Ambiguous Desire by Arlo Parks

There's nothing ambiguous about our enjoyment of Arlo Parks' sometimes lazy grooves. On this album she gets a bit less languid with some nice beats. She told Apple Music "I just wanted to go out and move". She took a break after her second album (2023's My Soft Machine) and hit the clubs of New…

We think this is adoptive Kiwi Tami Neilson's tenth studio album, a collection of songs that is country infused. Opening with the orchestrally backed and very traditional "Foolish Heart" this is a polished album that plays to her wonderful voice so suited to old school country and full of drama. New Zealand Net Radio plays a song from our irregularly updated every hour from 9am to 12pm. Listen in at on the web player.
