A more detailed explanation of what's happening with Moria.
The site has been restored but at reduced functionality. What you see in terms of the changed colours, layout and the mess of the menus is the sight that I was greeted with on Monday morning. When I previously finished posting on Sunday afternoon, everything was working fine. There have been no updates, no break-ins or support work done on it so it is a complete mystery as to what has happened to it.
The decision was made to restore the backup. However, the site is massive and sprawling. It is akin to one of the robots in an SF film that stumbles about collecting junk to its body and continues to stumble on shooting sparks in all directions.
The expected indefinite delay was due to the fact that when the backup was restored the database insisted on going and indexing everything from scratch. Because of the size of it, this was taking a massive amount of time and consuming 100% of the site's CPU resources. When I last looked, it from what I could tell was only 3% through indexing after 48 hours, which meant that the site could well have been offline for days, if not weeks.
Maintaining the site is starting to become more than I am capable of and well beyond my technical skills. With a mix of A.I. code analytics and a good support team, I have been successful at keeping on top to date. At least when things are going right. But I am not sure how long I can keep going with it in the current state.
The current version of the site is workable, if not ideal. Me and tech support are still trying to find out what went wrong. If anyone has any worthwhile input they can add to the mix, ideas are welcome.
