"A most unlikely collection of New Zealand garments from the 1970s and ‘80s gets a rare outing at the 2025 WORD Christchurch Festival.

Central Otago farmer Eden H**e amassed the collection of over 220 garments and displayed it in a converted tractor shed on his Māniatoto property until his death in 1997. Authors Jane Malthus and Claire Regnault, who tell Eden’s story in their book ‘Central Otago Couture’, are on the WORD programme in a session that includes a rare look at pieces from the collection."

We’re thrilled that The Beach Activity Book is a finalist for the Scholastic New Zealand Award for Best Children’s Book at the 2025 PANZ Book Design Awards! A huge congratulations to designer Kate Barraclough on your gorgeous, playful and functional design.

Written by Rachel Haydon, with illustrations by Pippa Keel, The Beach Activity Book was developed to inspire curious young minds to explore and appreciate our beaches, lakes, rivers and streams. It is also designed to be taken out into natural environments and to be drawn and written in.
