This week we have an Editorial paralleling the injustices that can be observed in cases such as Alan Hall and our very own Operation Inca. Garrick goes into the downward spiral in figures for such things as foal crops, stallion and mare numbers and the export market and suggests a breeder incentive scheme may not be far away in an attempt to arrest a declining industry. Plus the pleasant surprise that awaited Kirsty Adams at Addington last Sunday and strike rate trainer Steve Dolan was at it again last week.

This week's April 28 issue includes a story about the tough times that Otago's Nigel Chalmers has been through in recent years and how the recent form of Friendly Eyre has given him a much needed boost. Also the happy place that David White has found himself in as the stable foreman at the Stonewall operation in Canterbury and having the promising Swagger Man to play with. The Northern Digest includes the TAB's reluctance to support the reintroduction of grass track racing in the North Island.

The April 21 issue carried a tribute to Jim Dalgety following his passing aged 88. Also a story about how the inaugural Country Cups Championship and introduction of the RATTO races were widely applauded. And Bob Butt's rampant recent form. Garrick was back with his Northern Digest and touched on a proposal to relocate Alexandra Park to a new complex just south of Pukekohe, an idea that was rejected by the ATC.

This week's issue has stories about...
Sales purchase Play Philly has brought Scott Elliffe back into the limelight. Through the 80s and 90s, Elliffe worked for HRNZ, National Bloodstock, Wrightsons and Kenwood Stud and raced the 1988 NZSS 2YO Final winner Hammer with Auckland's Mark Habgood, who has now joined him in raced 'playfully'.
Rangiora maiden trot winner Bennie And The Jets has made rapid progress for Coaster Howe in recent months and BJ Lindenny proved that anything is possible in racing when he won at Addington last week at 100 to one.
The Breeding column focuses on mares served by stallions in the season just gone and the rise and rise of Always B Miki's siring career.

Last week's issue had stories about...
Don Burrows at the age of 70 gets the job done himself driving Silverlinings to win at Oamaru. It was just his second win since 2003 when he drove her grandam In Shot to win at a Kapiti Coast meeting.
Mark Jones has been through a quiet time but Hot To Trot is heading towards the three-year-old trotting features.
Masterton's Wayne Stewart has had some bad luck with his good mare Cullini but Bettorlini has him back on track now.
And Ray Jenkins has a rare driving win at Addington after taking on Belisma as a 'special project'.
There's also an opinion piece from Mark Jones about the proposed export tariffs.
