Our golf course is designed as a 9-hole course with two tee boxes per green, allowing for a full 18-hole round. We built the course to fit the landscape and character of the Mackenzie Country, and used the natural features and contours of the land. Read the story of our golf course from The Cut magazine:

Danny Lee. You’re still our No 1 Buddy
Arohanui to you and your family
Know the rules when you play different courses,
“Rule 1. No matter how badly you play; it is always possible to get worse.
Rule 2. Any change that works is only effective for a maximum of three holes.
Rule 3. Bad shanks and shots come in consecutive groups of three. If you hit a fourth bad shot, it is actually the beginning of your next group of three.
Rule 4. The more expensive the golf ball the easier it is to lose it.
Rule 5. Swing Thoughts. Keep no more than 98 swing thoughts in your head before you begin your takeaway.
Rule 6. Mistakes go to a secret place and attach where you least expect it. If you are driving the ball well, you will putt like sh*t. If you top your three metal, your irons will get you there. When everything seems to be working, you’ll get a blister from your golf shoes. Finally, if you keep your right elbow tucked during your swing, your head will come up.
Rule 7. Everyone fixes his ball mark after hitting the green in regulation.
Rule 8. Golf can best be defined as an endless series of tragedies, obscured by the occasional miracle, followed by a good bottle of beer.
Rule 9. Golf is complicated. One day you’ll hit every bunker and take two shots to get out, you’ll be slicing when you don’t ever slice, and will chunk every chip. The next day for no reason you’re golf really sucks.
Rule 10. If you’re playing very well, change your golf swing.
Rule 11. It’s not difficult to hit every fairway if you don’t care which fairway you hit.
Rule 12. If the drink cart girl is waiting for your group to tee off before driving up to serve you, you will hit it OB or dribble it just short of the lady’s tee.
Rule 13. Be courteous so don’t ever let your opponent be the only one to think about all the pitfalls of the shot he is about to make.
Rule 14. Marking your ball will most likely not result in leaving you a longer putt.
Rule 15. The easiest shot in golf is a pitch over a deep greenside bunker and hitting it directly into the bunker.
Rule 16. The second easiest shot in golf is leaving the ball in the greenside bunker.
Rule 17. You lose golf balls faster as your supply decreases.
Rule 18. A golf lesson will relieve you of your worst swing technique but will eradicate your compensating motion which allowed you to compensate for your worst swing technique.
Rule 19. A less smart a player always has a better mental game than a smarter player.
Rule 20. Pre-shot routine: Use your actual swing to take a big divot, use your practice swing to make your shot, and hit your do-over first.
Rule 21. There are two things you can learn by stopping your back swing at the top and checking the position of your hands: 1) how many hands you have; and 2) which one is wearing the glove.
Rule 22. To hit a short iron shot as far as you could when you were 20 years younger, just try to lay up short of a water hazard.
Rule 23. If you think you have figured out what thing you are doing wrong, that is the exact thing you are doing right.
Rule 24. When you watch the flight of a terrible shot and find yourself looking down in disgust, you just missed your ball rolling into a rabbit hole or something similar and you won’t ever find it.”

On 29 August 1912, the first New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Championship Tournament (under the control of the Ladies Golf Union) teed off in Nelson. It was reported that there weren’t as many players as the previous tournament in Wellington, but the field boasted “the best players from every quarter of the Dominion”.
Apparently heavy frost, the absence of rain and prevalence of grass grubs meant the course wasn’t quite as the committee had hoped, regardless the visitors were happy and the general opinion was that Nelson is ‘situated on ideal golfing country’.
Miss S. Collins (of Wellington), pictured here taking a putt was named the championship winner after easily beating fellow Wellingtonian Miss Pearce. The prize giving was held at midday on 6 September and for the convenience of the players, the ship to Wellington was delayed so that they could sail home that same day.
