River warning

A health warning which includes a temporary ban on swimming has been issued for part of the Tukituki River. Health NZ Te Whatu Ora issued the warning on Monday due to a “moderate to high” cover of potentially toxic algae at two locations along the river - at Black Bridge (near Haumoana) and Walker Rd (near Waipawa). People should avoid swimming in those areas. Animals, particularly dogs, should also be kept away from the water in those areas.

Eyes up this afternoon folks!

Flypast alert 🛫📸 Buckle in, this could be your last opportunity to see our remaining C-130H Hercules fleet flying in formation at low altitude.

Our C-130H fleet has served New Zealand for nearly 60 years and is scheduled for retirement early next year, after being replaced by the new fleet of five C-130J-30 Hercules aircraft.

This flypast is weather-dependent and subject to operational requirements.

Water's off in part of Gaisford Terrace, folks...

Kia Ora Central Hawke's Bay,💦

There's been a break on a water connection to the main on Waipukurau's Gaisford Terrace. We're carrying out an emergency water shutdown so we can fix it. The water will be off today, from 12.30pm to 2pm. The houses affected are 24 to 39 Gaisford Terrace.

If you live at any of the affected houses, after the shutdown we recommend that prior to using your washing machine or any other interally plumbed appliances, run your inside water tap to check the quality. 🔧🚰

Thanks for your patience while we fix this issue. 🚿

Wow...already!

🌊💧 Level 2 water restrictions were put in place across Central Hawke’s Bay at midnight💧🌞

We’ve made this move because we’ve already had a hot and dry spring, and Niwa’s predicting it’s going to stay like that throughout Central Hawke’s Bay's summer.

As a result, the water levels in our rivers – Tukituki and Waipawa – are dropping.

Those rivers are where we source our water for the Waipawa and Waipukurau supplies. The consents we have mean we have to put water conservation measures in place when the rivers drop to a certain level- which they have- that’s triggered us moving to level 2 restrictions.

What do level 2 water restrictions mean?

🌱 If you are going to water your gardens & lawns:

The odds & evens rule applies:
🏡 Even-numbered houses water on even-numbered days.
🏡 Odd-numbered houses water on odd-numbered days.

Sprinklers:
⏰ Use for 1 hour only, either before 9am or after 5pm.

Hand-held hoses:
⏰ Use before 10am or after 4pm — but never leave them going unattended.

🚗 Washing cars - only wash your vehicles using a hose with a trigger nozzle.

🚫 No hosing hard surfaces - that means decks, pathways, etc. UNLESS it’s for health, safety, or emergencies, then can you totally do it.
