"Anxiety needs an action." 💭

It’s easy to tell ourselves to "just stop worrying," but as Martin explains here, our brains often need us to actually do something to switch that signal off.

Here’s a sneak peek into the upcoming podcast with Martin Sloman, an experienced mental health counsellor based on the Kapiti Coast.

In this episode, Martin talks about the early signs of depression, why men often struggle in silence, and the kaupapa behind the Whirlwind movement and the Kāpiti Kindness Trust.

The full episode will be released very soon! Make sure you hit follow on your favourite platform using this link so you’re the first to hear it when it goes live: https://linktr.ee/tinopaipodcast

🩺 Measles Immunisation Week is here! | 3–7 Whiringa-ā-rangi (November) 💉

With more measles cases surfacing in NZ, now’s the moment to act.
Measles spreads faster than Covid — one person can infect up to 18 others. 😷
But the good news? It’s completely preventable.

Pop into one of these free pop-up clinics to check your records or get your MMR vaccine:
📍 Weltec College, 21 Kensington Ave, Petone — Wed 5 Nov, 10am–2pm
📍 PAK’nSAVE Kilbirnie — Thu 6 Nov, 10am–2pm
📍 Airport Retail Park, Tirangi Rd, Lyall Bay — Fri 7 Nov, 10am–2pm

✔️ Check your immunisation status
✔️ Get a free MMR vaccine
✔️ Protect yourself, your whānau, and your community

🧡 Did you know?
Full protection against measles requires two MMR doses.
If you were born between 1987–1998, you might have only had one dose.
If you were born 1970–2004, check your records — you may need a catch-up.

It’s never too late to get immunised.
Together, we can keep Aotearoa measles-free. 🌿

This week, let’s embrace and nurture it together. Here are some simple ways you can take part:
✔️ Greet your whānau, friends or workmates with a kupu Māori
✔️ Learn your pepeha and share it with others
✔️ Use resources like Reo Māori website or Te Aka Māori Dictionary

You can also join in online on reomaori.co.nz
✨ Take on the 50 Wero Reo Māori challenges to grow your reo skills
✨ Record a message to the future via Pūtahi Mahara (Time Capsule) — to be opened again in 2075

Mā te ao Māori, he reo ake ake.”
Let’s keep te reo alive — today, tomorrow, forever.

🌏 World Su***de Prevention Day | 10th September 🌏

In Aotearoa, too many of our whānau and communities carry the silent weight of suicidal thoughts. This year’s theme, “Changing the Narrative on Su***de”, reminds us that talking about su***de does not increase risk — it creates space for aroha, compassion, and hope. 💛

👉 When to step in:
When something has happened
When something has changed
When something doesn’t feel quite right

👉 How to step in – ABC:
Ask and listen without judgement
Build a plan together
Connect them with tautoko

By showing manaakitanga, listening with care, and reaching out, we can help lift the whakamā (stigma) and remind people they are never alone. 💬

📞 If you or someone you love is struggling, please reach out:
Free call/text 1737 for counselling & support
Su***de Crisis Helpline: 0508 828 865
Vaka Tautua (Pacific helpline): 0800 652 535

Together, we can change the narrative and build a kinder, safer Aotearoa. 🌿💛

🌍 International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples (9 Here-turi-kōkā)

🌱 Today we stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities across the globe — including tangata whenua here in Aotearoa.

Indigenous peoples carry centuries of mātauranga, resilience, and deep connection to land, language, and identity. Yet they continue to face structural injustice and marginalisation.

This International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, let’s commit to:
✔️ Honouring Indigenous knowledge and leadership
✔️ Upholding self-determination and sovereignty
✔️ Creating a world where Indigenous voices are heard, valued, and centred

He taonga te tangata whenua. Let’s celebrate and uplift all Indigenous peoples today — and every day. 🖤❤️💛

🌸 World Breastfeeding Week (1–7 Here-turi-kōkā)

🚼 Breastfeeding is more than a personal choice — it’s a public health issue.
It protects babies, supports maternal wellbeing, and strengthens whānau. But not every parent receives the support they need.

Too many face stigma, pressure, or barriers when trying to breastfeed — especially in public or in the workplace.

This World Breastfeeding Week, let’s push for:
✔️ Informed, judgement-free support for all parents
✔️ Safe, welcoming spaces to feed pēpi
✔️ Cultural, clinical, and emotional care that uplifts whānau

Breastfeeding takes a village — let’s be that village. 💛
