Carved into volcanic rock by the forced labor of local Balinese, these 16 tunnels were built as a WWII defense post for the Imperial Japanese Army.

A heavy piece of history hidden right by the side of the road in Klungkung, Bali.

Oh Crap!I hope no one was in it when it got blown off its foundations💩

Last year the council tried to close all access from Cape Palliser. After a huge backlash they backed down and only banned motorised vehicles for 2 years while they decided what to do next.

Part of the councils argument for closing or restricting access from the Cape end was that there was still easy access from White Rock - this is clearly not the case anymore.

My previous video, The Fight For Public Land: White Rock, exposed the illegal locked gate sitting across a public road on the coast.

Now, the situation just got significantly worse...

Last year the council tried to close all access from Cape Palliser, after a huge backlash - in large part thanks to people like you viewing and sharing these videos, they backed down and banned motorised vehicles for 2 years while they decided what to do next. A large part of the councils argument for closing or restricting access from the Cape was that there was still access from White Rock - this is clearly not the case anymore.

Really cool to see Darcy Nicholas named a 2026 Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi Icon! A hugely deserved acknowledgment for someone who has shaped contemporary Māori art and supported so many creatives over the decades.

This photo is from a profile of Darcy I shot for New Zealand Geographic a few years back. For a few unpleasant reasons (none involving Darcy!), the story ended up falling through and the images sat in the archive.

With his lifetime achievement award being celebrated, it felt like the right moment to finally dust them off and share one.

Unpopular opinion: Some of the best spots in New Zealand are becoming overcrowded tourist spots, while incredible local regions are completely ignored. What region do you think deserves more love?

A few years ago, someone stumbled across an unlettered rock headstone marking what looks to be a grave near the Coppermine track.

But the grave isn’t even the strangest part of the site...

Could this have been a speculative prospecting drive that collapsed and killed a miner, who was then buried right outside the entrance by their partner? Or maybe it’s something else entirely?
