This week, we've talked with workers around the city, met with local residents, and knocked on doors in Berhampore and Strathmore. The message is clear, we need to make this a one-term government on November 7.

Housing is about more than bricks and mortar. It's about whether Wellingtonians can afford to stay in the city they love, raise a family, and give their children the opportunities they deserve.

Right now, too many people are struggling with unaffordable rents, inadequate housing and a shortage of secure, decent homes.

The consequences reach across generations. When young people can't afford to move out, when families are forced to spend too much of their income on rent, and when children grow up in unhealthy homes, it becomes harder to build the kind of future we want for Wellington.

That's why investment in state housing matters. Developments like Ngātiapa Street and Arlington in Brooklyn are reminders of the need to build more homes that are affordable, warm, dry and fit for purpose.

As Labour's candidate for Wellington Bays, I want a future where people can find a decent home, put down roots and know their children will have the chance to thrive.

A Labour government will make housing a priority, because every Wellingtonian deserves a safe and secure place to call home.

Wellington is the home of New Zealand's public service. The people who work in our public sector are a huge part of what keeps our city going.

Last week, I joined workers from MBIE, MSD and DIA as they took strike action to stand up for their jobs and the services they provide to New Zealanders.

These workers support families, help businesses, and deliver the essential services our communities depend on. Their jobs matter, and so does the future of our public service.

As Labour's candidate for Wellington Bays, I'm committed to protecting every public sector job worth doing. That means supporting the workers who keep our economy moving, creating meaningful employment for the next generation of Wellingtonians, and ensuring our capital can continue to deliver the great public service New Zealand relies on.

Wellington's future is built on the people who work here. We should be backing them, not cutting them.

On Tuesday at the Taxpayers' Union debate, the local National candidate and I debated National's delivery of the so-called "fundamentals" and what they mean for Wellington.

For National, the fundamentals seem to mean more unemployment, more homelessness on our streets and more children growing up in poverty.

But those aren't the fundamentals Wellingtonians want. They want good jobs, affordable homes, thriving communities and the opportunity to build a better future for their families.

After three years of National, Wellington deserves a government that will get our city moving again.

A Labour government will back our workers, invest in our communities and create the conditions for Wellington to thrive. We want a capital where young people can find meaningful work, families can afford to stay, and everyone has the opportunity to get ahead.

That's the future I'm fighting for as Labour's candidate for Wellington Bays.

: Labour will ban price gouging.

Here in Wellington Bays, working people are doing everything they can to get ahead. But when the cost of groceries, power and fuel keeps climbing, too many families are left with less in their pockets at the end of the week.

And while people are making sacrifices, some of the biggest companies in the country are making enormous profits from the things we all need.

That’s not a fair deal.

Labour will ban excessive price gouging and hold big companies accountable when they exploit their market power at the expense of ordinary New Zealanders.

Because the economy should work for people, not just those at the top.

Whether you’re raising a family in Newtown, renting in Island Bay or working hard to make ends meet in Miramar, you deserve a fair share of New Zealand’s prosperity.

Labour is fighting for an economy that works for working people, where everyone has a fair chance to get ahead.

That’s the change we need.

The damage from this year’s storms is yet another reminder that the climate emergency is already here. I’ll back renewable energy, better public transport, an electrified economy, and the investment our community needs to protect against the impacts of climate change and increasingly severe weather events.

I believe in a just transition towards climate mitigation and resilience. In 2019, Labour passed the Zero Carbon Act, making a commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2050. In 2020, we declared a climate emergency.

This election, Labour are offering $20-a-week public transport fare caps. Lowering energy costs through SolarSaver - which will support rooftop solar and batteries. Tackling climate change not only helps the planet, it helps your wallet too.
