Going to be busy on the buses tomorrow. Wednesday 12th Feb

It's going to be busier than normal on the buses between Port Chalmers and the city on Wednesday! 🚌🚌🚌🚢

Tomorrow, Wednesday 12 February, the Island Princess and Crown Princess are scheduled to arrive in Port Chalmers at 6.15am and 6.45am respectively (passengers will disembark about 30 minutes later).

This will cause peak demand for public transport from the port to the city in the morning.

To reduce the impact, we will be:
• Adding extra bus trips during peak hours
• Making sure there’s room for local passengers on the Port Chalmers Route 14 bus to and from the city.

As it's going to be a busy day on Wednesday, we recommend arriving earlier than usual please.

Thanks for your patience! 🙏

UPDATED with new red alert site: This week’s recreational water quality results are in. 💧

Check LAWA for the latest results and to check if it’s safe to swim at your favourite spot:
www.orc.govt.nz/lawa

After some heavy rain prior to sample collection on Monday, a few sites across Otago have reported high levels of faecal bacteria.

Results were at the red alert level for:
🔴 Manuherekia at Shaky Bridge
🔴 Clutha at Dunorling St
🔴 Otokia Creek at Brighton Rd Bridge
🔴 Taieri at Waipiata

Further testing will be carried out. 🧪

Conditions can change quickly so always follow the Swim Smart Checklist:
• Follow any warning signs and check the LAWA website for the latest water quality info and updates (www.orc.govt.nz/lawa)
• Avoid swimming for 48 hours after heavy rain (run-off can be washed into waterways)
• Check the water is clean and clear (you should see your toes when in calf-deep water)
• Stay away from any pipes, culverts, and flocks of birds
• Check for hazards (jagged rocks, stinging jellyfish, steep drop-offs)
• Know how to spot toxic algae in rivers or lakes so you can avoid it

Tag and share this week’s recreational water quality results with people you know who may be visiting the red alert sites.
