I try not to disturb them as I admire both their industrious personalities and the sheer tensile strength of their handiwork.

Here on the Azuero, the change of seasons can bring out some of the lesser-seen beauties, like this orb weaver.

(I'm almost positive, it's a golden silk type, although the arachnophiles may be able to narrow it correctly for me.)

Thawed Thoughts on a Recent Adventure:

As you see from the pics, I visited Alaska recently. Because I love my husband--- and apparently, because I wanted to see what my internal organs felt like in -10°F.

I went from 90° Panama heat to temperatures so cold, my bones filed a formal HR complaint.

* I didn’t walk. I clomped.
* My knees snapped like twigs.
* My fingers refused to function.
* I didn’t pack for fashion—I packed to not perish.

But the moment I landed back in Panama, the humidity caressed me and I began a glorious thaw as my body slowly remembered how to move again.

It’s not that I hated the cold… it’s just that the cold clearly hated me first.

MOTIVATION, HEALING, AND EPIPHANIES:

In a few days, I return to my beloved tropics. But as this arctic trip draws to a close, I'm realizing a few things:

* Finally 100% healed from the mosquito-borne fever (Whew! Only took 3 months, start to finish). But now, my mind is screaming for exercise and creative writing.

* Really wanting the Hubster to join me in 🇵🇦 more of the year. He agrees. We have a plan!

* Turns out Nome, Alaska has a thriving and vibrant dart community! Charles and I got to re-invigorate our love of the game-- and meet some great players.

Oropuche/Sloth Fever (like the 4th cousin of dengue, but just as brutal to certain folks) is endemic on Azuero. As with dengue, most folks are asymptomatic or mild--- but flu symptoms with consistent pain directly behind the eyes and any subsequent rash should always be checked out. Panama has good treatment regimens for both. Unfortunately, I am recently an expert on these matters. :-)

Note: see your physician, as Dengue can go hemorrhagic in worst case-- while Oropuche can go encephalitic.
