Thousands of people gather every evening for one of Chongqing’s most famous travel experiences: the lights of Raffles City Chongqing in China turning on! ✨🇨🇳

I asked ChatGPT what time it happens. The answer? 7 PM.

Wrong. As per usual when it comes to travel advice! 😅

As the sun set over Chongqing, the crowd kept growing. Cameras ready. Everyone smiling. Everyone waiting. The anticipation was building… and then, without any countdown, announcement, or warning, the lights suddenly came alive.

That’s it.

No music. No fireworks. Just one switch that transforms the skyline and has thousands of people stopping to watch.

Chongqing never stops surprising me. 🇨🇳✨

This feeling! The sound! 😍✈️🇲🇻 Only in Maldives you can stand next to a plane taking off from the water! 😍✈️

Did you know the Maldives has a world record in the sky?

It is home to the largest seaplane fleet and operator in the world!

The Fleet: Trans Maldivian Airways flies over 65 planes, but there are more sea plane companies like Manta Air, etc.

The Mission: Dropping travelers off at beautiful resort islands.

The View: Pure paradise from above!

While these island-hoppers are small, they make up the biggest seaplane network on Earth.

Truly the ultimate way to arrive in paradise and one of the reasons why I love traveling in Maldives!

It is worth about $66 USD! I thought I had spotted a baby whale shark in the Maldives… 🦈😅

Just kidding… it was something much more common but equally beautiful: the 1,000 Maldivian Rufiyaa banknote! 🇲🇻

It’s the highest banknote in the Maldives and honestly one of the most beautiful pieces of currency I’ve ever seen. It features a whale shark, sea turtle, vibrant marine life, and it even floats on water thanks to its unique polymer design.

But then again, that’s the Maldives in a nutshell: even the money is beautiful.

From iconic overwater villas to crystal-clear lagoons and some of the world’s most incredible marine life, this country never stops amazing me. ❤️

Would you run inside? ⚡️⛈️🇲🇻

Most people picture the Maldives as endless sunshine and perfectly calm seas.

Me? I was out in the warm ocean beside my overwater villa while a tropical thunderstorm charged across the horizon.

And YES I LOVED IT!

Lightning ripped through the sky. Thunder rolled over the water. The whole Indian Ocean felt alive.

Every flash lit up the horizon like a scene from a movie, and instead of heading for cover, I couldn’t look away.

Most travelers would probably be wishing for blue skies in that moment. But watching nature unleash its full power from an overwater villa in the middle of the Maldives felt like front-row seats to something wild.

The Maldives isn’t always calm, quiet, and postcard-perfect.

Sometimes it’s untamed. Sometimes it’s electric.

And honestly? Sometimes that’s even better. I will never forget these thrilling Maldives holiday experiences!⚡️🇲🇻

This Maldives 🇲🇻 island has 600 inhabitans and needs thousands water bottles per week! 😱

Sadly, Kudafari, a local island in the Maldives, already has everything it needs to produce its own drinking water.

A natural water source. A well. A water treatment plant. The infrastructure. The licenses.

The only thing missing for several years is the final approval from the government in Male, the capital of Maldives!

Until that happens, a boat arrives every week loaded with 6,000 bottles of water, creating thousands of pieces of unnecessary plastic waste that could potentially be avoided.

But… I learned the water bottle company is from Male. So it is not hard to do the math and connect the dots what is actually going on here!

SAD! 💸💰

It shows that solving environmental challenges isn’t always about technology. Sometimes the solution is already there, waiting to be used.

Damn! 😱 This villa in Maldives changed my perception of Maldives holiday! 🇲🇻

I always thought the ultimate Maldives experience was staying in an overwater villa…

But after seeing this brand-new beach villa at Siyam Iru Fushi, I’m seriously having second thoughts. 🤯🌴

This villa is HUGE.

A massive bedroom with beach views, a bathroom that feels bigger than some hotel rooms, two outdoor showers, an outdoor bathtub, multiple lounge areas, a giant private pool, and your own tropical garden leading straight onto the beach.

What surprised me most is how much privacy you get. No neighbors looking into your pool, no one walking past your terrace. Just your own little slice of paradise.

And while overwater villas give you direct access to the lagoon, beach villas give you something completely different: space. Lots and lots of space.

Now I’m curious…

If you had to choose for your next Maldives trip, would you pick:

A brand-new overwater villa in the Maldives for around $500 USD a night? 😳🌴

I checked the standard booking sites to verify and found prices of around $500 USD, so it is no joke!

When people think of the Maldives, they usually think of $2,000+ USD villas. But right now, these newly refurbished overwater villas at Siyam Iru Fushi are surprisingly affordable.

From the moment we walked in, everything felt fresh, modern, and luxurious. Ocean views from the bed, a bathtub overlooking endless shades of blue, a huge private terrace, a hammock above the water, and a private pool that almost blends into the color of the lagoon. 💙

What I love most? You don’t just get ocean views. You also get tropical island views with swaying palm trees, which gives this villa a completely different vibe from many other overwater villas in the Maldives.

And yes… I may or may not have jumped straight into the pool after this room tour. 😂
