Our first stop in Uzbekistan. Samarkand is vibrant with historical and cultural significance. It was once the prized capital of the expansive Timurid empire, one of the largest and most influential empires in Central Asia and the Middle East. It became known as a center of the Silk Road and a golden age of art and science. Here, scientists, architects, and artists were brought from all across the region, including Iran. Samarkand is one of the few places that's left me awestruck from the moment we arrived.

Why I don’t live in the US

Transcript: I don’t live in the US. I haven’t lived in the US for the past five years. There are things I like about the US. Hygiene, and in terms of order, and organization, and rules, and laws. There’s a level of order here that doesn’t exist in all of the world, and if you travel enough, you start to miss that. There’s also freedom of speech. It’s varied in how free it’s been, uh, to say the least, but it’s still, like, at a higher level than many other places. You know, I’m in a very lucky position to be an American because of, well, the American passport. The American passport is the reason I got such a well-paying job in China. It’s the reason I can travel to so many countries. Now, if I think about would I ever actually want to live in the US on a permanent basis, I, I hesitate. You know, I don’t really n- have an answer necessarily to that, ‘cause each place you go has its pros and cons. Life is hard everywhere, if we’re being honest, for locals especially. You know, I, I have a certain advantage because you have this arbitrage where I’m earning USD and I’m spending it in places where the, you know, average spending power is less, and so I’m able to afford a higher standard of living. But my general observation is that life is not easy anywhere. I don’t think there’s any perfect place. I’ve been to places that have felt like perfect places. They have their own downsides, and they’re and if you stay for a prolonged time, you start to, you start to pay attention to those downsides.
