I was presented with this bill at the end of a meal out this evening. Immediately, I was thrown by the apparent double charge.
Item one is ‘pint soda & cord’ and I think it’s safe to assume ‘cord’ in this instance refers to cordial as this was the item ordered and delivered - a pint of soda and (lime) cordial.
However, attached to this item is a supplementary charge of ‘dash lime cordia’. Once again, I think it is safe to assume that ‘cordia’ refers to cordial.
Given the apparent error, I asked a staff member for clarity and/or correction. The response was even more baffling…”yes, you ordered a lime and soda.”
Despite feeling the stares from my other half, I persevered… “Yes, but line one states soda and cordial, so why was I then charged again for cordial?”, “oh it just says soda and cordial”.
Ok….”ah well that is a little confusing, as it gives the impression I have been charged twice.” She seemed baffled, “that’s just how the system works, I don’t actually make the system.”
“So if I ordered a plain soda, would it say ‘soda and cordial’?
“No.”
As I inhaled in the preparation for my next question I was interrupted by my other half “Don’t.”
I didn’t.
Male, 35, work in finance, still fairly certain I was charged twice for cordial.
