PNG Kumuls coach Jason Demetriou is thrilled to welcome back big names Alex Johnston, Edwin Ipape, Epel Kapinias, and Zac Laybutt for the 2025 Pacific Championships, alongside emerging stars like Cooper Bai and Dudley Dotoi. With the 2026 Rugby League World Cup in sight and a growing player pool bolstered by the upcoming PNG NRL team, squad selection will be tougher than ever.

PNG will host the Pacific Bowl in Port Moresby, facing Cook Islands (Oct 18) and Fiji (Nov 1), while Fiji plays Cook Islands on Oct 25. The Kumuls aim to defend their 2024 title after pushing New Zealand in last year’s promotion playoff.

Demetriou praised standout performances from young talents Robert Mathias, Morea Morea, and others, while noting strong overseas form from Jacob Alick-Wiencke, Jeremiah Simbiken, Lachlan Lam, and Ipape. With PNG celebrating 50 years of Independence, excitement is high for a historic season.
