Opposition Leader Hon. Nomane is concerned about the welfare of security personnel and civilians in the operations at Tsak Valley, Wapenamanda.

While we commend the good work done by Kumul Force 23 in Wapanamanda District, exercising and maintaining the rule of law, we're also seeing negative criticism regarding the recent killing of innocent civilians caught in crossfire.

Such incidents wouldn't happen with proper coordination, control, backup intelligence, and equipment for police to enforce law, that's what our Opposition Leader is saying.

The government can take non-violent approaches to avoid dangers involving criminals and warlords who disregard law. We can employ better approaches maintaining the rule of law without endangering police and civilians capturing criminals.

Criminals and warlords use citizens, women, and children to evade law, the rules of engagement shouldn't exterminate civilians pursuing justice.

Hon. Nomane isn't playing politics, he's concerned about security personnel and civilians' welfare.

Outgoing Acting Health Secretary Claims Integrity Cost Him Permanent Appointment

Outgoing Acting Health Secretary Ken Kandap Wai has claimed that his refusal to bow to political pressure was the reason he was not appointed to the permanent role of Health Secretary.

In a detailed public statement, Kandap Wai said he lost the confidence of the Health Minister after repeatedly rejecting directives to appoint a particular doctor to the position of Deputy Secretary for Health Policy and Corporate Services during his seven months in office.

Kandap Wai said he was appointed Acting Health Secretary on 12 May 2025 and during that period received at least 10 directives, verbally, via WhatsApp, and in writing, from the Minister to appoint what he described as the Minister’s “wantok” to the senior role.

He stated that he refused the appointment on integrity grounds, alleging that the doctor had previously been implicated in the mismanagement of Global Fund financing for tuberculosis, HIV, and malaria.

According to Kandap Wai, the issue led to the National Department of Health (NDOH) reimbursing USD3.4 million to the Global Fund in 2014.

He said the incident resulted in Papua New Guinea losing its status as a Principal Recipient of Global Fund grants for the past decade, costing the country an estimated USD365 million (K1.3 billion) in funding.

Kandap Wai argued that continued loss of direct control over Global Fund resources has contributed to rising cases of TB, HIV, and malaria, as funding is now managed by external entities rather than the NDOH.

“The health sector relies heavily on international partners such as DFAT, WHO, UNICEF, the World Bank, ADB, NZ Aid, and others,” he said, adding that appointing the doctor could have damaged relationships with key development partners.

New beginnings often come disguised as painful endings. What feels like loss, rejection, or failure in the moment is often life quietly rearranging things for your growth. A closed door can hurt deeply, especially when you invested your time, love, energy, or dreams into what was on the other side. But not every ending is meant to break you. Some endings are meant to protect you, redirect you, and prepare you for something greater.

Those detours you didn’t ask for? They are teaching you lessons you couldn’t have learned any other way. They are building your strength, sharpening your wisdom, and helping you see what truly matters. Sometimes life removes people, opportunities, or plans not as punishment, but as guidance. What you thought you needed may have limited you. What you lost may have been holding you back from becoming who you’re meant to be.

Be thankful for the doors that closed without explanation. Be grateful for the plans that fell apart, the relationships that ended, and the paths that no longer aligned with your purpose. If it ended, trust that it no longer served the future version of you. What’s ahead requires a stronger mindset, a clearer vision, and a braver heart.

Growth is uncomfortable. Transformation is rarely gentle. But every ending carries the seed of a new beginning. One day, you’ll look back and realize that what once felt like an ending was actually a turning point. Life wasn’t taking something away from you, it was leading you to a better place.
