The Deputy Prime Minister, his Honorable John Rosso officiated the 3rd Graduation ceremony of the 215 participants that graduated under the Lae City Authority Urban Youth Employment Project II at Sir Ignatius Indoor Stadium yesterday.
The Graduation Ceremony is for the 215 participants that took part in the Urban Youth Employment Project last year. The occasion marked a significant milestone in the project’s ongoing efforts to equip young people in Lae with valuable skills and opportunities for employment.
The aim of the project is to address youth unemployment in the urban centers by providing vocational training, life skills development and job placement assistance.
The Deputy Prime Minister, in his keynote, commended the graduates for their dedication and hard work. He also acknowledged the support and the presence of the business houses that are present on that significant occasion.
Rosso encouraged the graduands to stop blaming other people for their misfortunes but he encouraged them to take ownership of their own actions.
“You have to grab opportunities and have a change of mindset”, says John Rosso.
The Urban Youth Employment Project II is under the leadership of the project manager, Fred Mirinu and his hardworking staffs under the Lae City Authority. “I did not expect to see quite a big turn up of the graduands including the business houses showing support to the graduands”, says the project manager Fred Mirinu.
A graduand from the 215 participants shared his experience saying it is quite an opportunity because they have no qualifications but the UYEP has opened employment for them.
The graduation ceremony featured with the highlights of the potential employers presenting the certificates to the two-hundred and fifteen participants. However, several graduates have already secured employment with few business houses.
The business houses and the potential employers of the project II that are presented are; BNG trading company Limited, Amalpack Limited, Chemcare Pharmacy, Mapai Transport Limited, Okari Conference Centre, Digicel, Coco Cola and few more other companies.
