CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS: Meet Kelly Aron, one of the people behind the “Keep Lae City Clean for a Better Lae” group, who joined Dylanney Meckle and Leanne Taplan at Catholic FM Radio for an Insider program.
Kelly shared about his inspiration, motivation and challenges of keeping Eriku as one of the busiest hotspot area of Lae City. Today, he talked about what inspired him and a group of hardworking men who volunteered to maintain the cleanliness of Eriku and to limit criminal activities in the area. As a concerned citizen of Lae City, Kelly saw the ignorance of the people in keeping the city clean and he volunteered to make a difference.
Mr. Aron shared some challenges faced by him and the volunteers who cleaned around the vicinity of Eriku. He talked about limited financial assistance as one of the major problem they faced. He shared that they cleaned without proper equipment. Kelly and his team support themselves financially and pay for their tools by selling betelnut and ci******es. “We have faith that we won’t get sick when we clean without gloves”, says Mr Aron.
Kelly encouraged the citizens of Lae City to be responsible of keeping Lae City clean. He also encouraged the young people to limit criminal activities in public places.

The Deputy Prime Minister, his Honorable John Rosso officiated the 3rd Graduation ceremony of the 215 participants that graduated under the Lae City Authority Urban Youth Employment Project II at Sir Ignatius Indoor Stadium yesterday.

The Graduation Ceremony is for the 215 participants that took part in the Urban Youth Employment Project last year. The occasion marked a significant milestone in the project’s ongoing efforts to equip young people in Lae with valuable skills and opportunities for employment.

The aim of the project is to address youth unemployment in the urban centers by providing vocational training, life skills development and job placement assistance.

The Deputy Prime Minister, in his keynote, commended the graduates for their dedication and hard work. He also acknowledged the support and the presence of the business houses that are present on that significant occasion.
Rosso encouraged the graduands to stop blaming other people for their misfortunes but he encouraged them to take ownership of their own actions.

“You have to grab opportunities and have a change of mindset”, says John Rosso.
The Urban Youth Employment Project II is under the leadership of the project manager, Fred Mirinu and his hardworking staffs under the Lae City Authority. “I did not expect to see quite a big turn up of the graduands including the business houses showing support to the graduands”, says the project manager Fred Mirinu.

A graduand from the 215 participants shared his experience saying it is quite an opportunity because they have no qualifications but the UYEP has opened employment for them.

The graduation ceremony featured with the highlights of the potential employers presenting the certificates to the two-hundred and fifteen participants. However, several graduates have already secured employment with few business houses.

The business houses and the potential employers of the project II that are presented are; BNG trading company Limited, Amalpack Limited, Chemcare Pharmacy, Mapai Transport Limited, Okari Conference Centre, Digicel, Coco Cola and few more other companies.
