The Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) has reinforced its partnership with the Central Provincial Government through its first quarterly engagement meeting held at Kwikila Station in Central Province.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration in key areas, including revenue administration, taxpayer education, compliance awareness, and initiatives aimed at supporting economic growth and development across the province.

IRC officials and provincial representatives discussed strategies to improve tax services, enhance public awareness of tax obligations, and foster greater cooperation between government agencies to drive sustainable development in Central Province.

Following the meeting, the IRC delegation, accompanied by the Provincial Administrator (PA) of Central Province and the Rigo District Development Authority (DDA) Planner, travelled to the renowned Imoti Village in the Rigo District for a visitation.

Imoti Village is widely known throughout Papua New Guinea as the birthplace celebrated in songs by the late legendary musician Rabbie Gamenu, whose music helped place the village on the national map.

The visit provided an opportunity for officials to engage with local communities, gain firsthand insight into development opportunities and challenges, and strengthen relationships with stakeholders at the grassroots level.

The quarterly engagement forms part of the IRC's ongoing commitment to working closely with provincial governments to improve service delivery, encourage tax compliance, and support economic development initiatives throughout Papua New Guinea.

Residents in Sandaun Province, particularly those living in Vanimo and surrounding coastal communities, have been urged to remain on high alert following reports of a powerful earthquake off the coast of the Philippines that has triggered tsunami concerns across parts of Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

According to information released by authorities, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck near Mindanao Island in the southern Philippines between 7:30am and 8:00am today. The quake prompted monitoring agencies, including the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, to issue alerts for several countries in the region.

Officials have warned that the north-west coast of Papua New Guinea could experience increased wave activity and unusually high tides between 12pm and 5pm today.

The PNG National Disaster Centre has advised all provincial disaster offices to remain on high alert over the next four hours and continue monitoring developments closely.

Members of the public, particularly those in low-lying coastal areas, are being encouraged to follow official safety advice, remain vigilant, and be prepared to move to higher ground if necessary.

Authorities are continuing to assess the situation as tsunami monitoring remains in place across affected regions.

This is a developing story and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

The London Broncos continued their dominant winning form with a ruthless 134-0 demolition of the North Wales Crusaders in a one-sided rugby league masterclass.

The Broncos crossed for an astonishing 25 tries, overwhelming the Crusaders from the opening whistle and never easing the pressure throughout the match.

Papua New Guinea international Morea Morea was among the standout performers, crossing the try line four times in a brilliant attacking display. His pace and finishing ability proved too much for the Crusaders' defence as the Broncos piled on the points.

The emphatic victory further strengthens London's winning culture and highlights the club's attacking firepower as they continue to build momentum this season.

For PNG rugby league fans, Morea's four-try haul will be another encouraging sign as the international star continues to impress on the overseas stage.

The Broncos' 134-point haul and 25-try performance will be remembered as one of the most dominant displays of the season, leaving the Crusaders with no answer to the relentless London attack.

Queensland coach Billy Slater has made several key changes to his Maroons squad ahead of State of Origin Game II, including a surprise recall for Reece Walsh.

Facing a must-win clash to keep Queenslandโ€™s series hopes alive, Slater has been forced into at least one change with forward Pat Carrigan ruled out due to an ankle injury.

In Carriganโ€™s absence, rising Dolphins forward Kulikefu Finefeuaki has been named on the interchange bench and is set to make his State of Origin debut. The 22-year-old was part of the Maroons squad for Game I as the 20th man and now earns his opportunity on rugby leagueโ€™s biggest stage.

Meanwhile, Broncos playmaker Ezra Mam has been omitted from the extended six-man bench, with fellow Brisbane star Walsh brought back into the squad.

Despite mixed form in recent weeks for the Broncos, Walsh remains one of Queenslandโ€™s most dangerous attacking weapons. His pace, creativity and ability to break open a game could prove valuable against a tiring New South Wales side if Slater opts to deploy him from the bench.

The Maroons now head into Game II looking to level the series and keep their State of Origin title defence alive.

The Oro Rugby Football League Association (ORLFA) has begun its player trial matches ahead of the official start of the 2026 competition season, with clubs taking to the field in both Under-20 and A Grade divisions today.

The trial games are aimed at assessing players and helping clubs finalize their squads before the competition gets underway. Organisers ensured the venue was match-ready, with fresh field markings, inspected goal posts, and a well-maintained playing surface.

ORLFA commended all clubs for their commitment and contribution to the growth of rugby league in Popondetta, saying the strong turnout reflects the dedication of players, coaches, and supporters in developing the sport.

โ€œThis is an important step before the season begins. The trial matches give players an opportunity to prove themselves while helping clubs prepare for the challenges ahead,โ€ officials said.

In the Men's Under-20 division, Royals recorded a narrow 2-0 victory over Popondetta Brothers, while SBS Pythons defeated M4M Bulldogs 6-0.

The Men's A Grade matches also delivered competitive action, with Royals overcoming Popondetta Brothers 4-0. M4M Bulldogs secured a 10-0 win over SBS Pythons after crossing for two tries and adding one successful conversion.

The player trials are expected to continue over the coming weeks as clubs fine-tune their combinations and identify talent ahead of the opening round of the ORLFA competition.

โšฝ TITA HAT-TRICK FIRES PNG TO OPENING WIN

Papua New Guinea has made a flying start to its OFC U-19 Menโ€™s Championship 2026 Qualifying campaign, defeating Tonga in its opening match.

Star forward David Tita delivered a standout performance, scoring a brilliant hat-trick to lead the young Kapuls to victory and secure maximum points in their first outing of the tournament.

The result gives Papua New Guinea an early boost in the competition as the team looks to build momentum and push for qualification.

Titaโ€™s clinical finishing and attacking presence proved too much for Tonga, with PNG showcasing confidence and determination from the opening whistle.

The victory marks a positive beginning for the national youth side as they continue their quest for a place at the OFC U-19 Menโ€™s Championship 2026.
PNG ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฌ start strong. Tonga ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ด fall to Tita-inspired hat-trick heroics.

The final five members of Papua New Guineaโ€™s Under-19 Menโ€™s National Team have departed for the Cook Islands after successfully completing their Grade 10 Written Expression Examination yesterday.

The players, who are based in Lae, were able to sit their examinations in Port Moresby through special arrangements made by Gordon Secondary School and the Department of Education, allowing them to fulfill their academic responsibilities while representing the country in football.

The Papua New Guinea Football Association expressed its gratitude to both institutions for their support, highlighting the importance of balancing education and sporting excellence.

With examinations now behind them and the full squad assembled, the young Papua New Guineans have turned their attention to the upcoming OFC U-19 Men's Championship Qualifying Stage.

PNG will begin its qualifying campaign against Tonga on Sunday at 11:00am PNG time, with qualification for the OFC U-19 Men's Championship at stake.

The team carries the hopes of the nation as it seeks to secure a place in the regional championship and continue its development on the international stage.
