New Zealand Warriors joined Australia’s top rugby league competition in 1995 as the Auckland Warriors, becoming the first New Zealand-based club in the premiership.
Since then, the club has completed 32 seasons from 1995 through 2026, spanning the ARL, the 1997 Super League season, and the modern NRL era.

Financially, measuring total franchise spending since 1995 depends on whether you count only player salary cap payments or broader club operations such as staff wages, travel, facilities, and administration. Average salary of AUD $400,000 equals approximately PGK 980,000 per year. This is close to one million kina annually for just one player. For many people in Papua New Guinea, this amount would be considered a very high income.

However, not every NRL player earns the same amount. Rookie or lower-ranked players may earn around AUD $135,000 per season, which converts to about PGK 330,750. These are usually younger players starting their careers or squad members still developing. Mid-level regular first-grade players can earn between AUD $250,000 to AUD $600,000, which is around PGK 612,500 to PGK 1.47 million each year.

Star players and representative players often earn over AUD $1 million annually, which equals approximately PGK 2.45 million.
