Law and order is indeed getting out of hand in Porgera.

We need educated, mature, and responsible national leadership like Hon. James Nomane and Hon. Allan Bird—leaders who understand the seriousness of protecting lives, maintaining peace, and addressing law-and-order issues.

Just look at the heartbreaking situation shown in the photo below: innocent men, women, and children are losing their lives in the very heart of Porgera Town.

While ordinary people are suffering and families are mourning, our so-called “TikTok and Facebook leaders” enjoying himself and associating with young TikTok boys and girls. You should showing strong leadership when it matters most.

Porgera-Paiela needs leadership that is serious about law and order, development, and the safety of its people. We truly need mature, educated, responsible, and accountable leadership for the Porgera-Paiela Electorate.

TikTok MP for the Porgera-Paiela Open electorate, Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe, is using the title "Honourable" to get credit money from hardworking taxpayers. Is this the kind of leadership he provides for the Porgera-Paiela District? This is a shame and a slap in the face to the people of Porgera-Paiela. Look at the attached screenshot photo. FORMER COUNCILLOR JACK IPI REBUTS MP GIDRON MASO KARIPE’S STATEMENT, CALLS FOR FAIR AND INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION

I, Former Councillor Jack Ipi from Komaga Ward 06, Paiela Rural LLG, Porgera-Paiela District, Enga Province, wish to respond to the public statement released by Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe, Member for Porgera-Paiela, regarding the incident that occurred at Kamas Fuel Service Station, Wabag Town, on Saturday 11 July 2026.

First, I want to acknowledge that Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe has the right to present his side of the story. However, I also have the right as a citizen, a former Councillor, and a senior member of the community to respond and correct information that I believe does not represent what happened.

I respect the rule of law, and I agree that the truth must be established through proper investigation. However, the public also deserves to hear my side of the story.

1. Response Regarding the Allegation That I Was Under the Influence of Alcohol

Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe stated that I was accompanying another person who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and holding an SP Beer bottle.

I completely reject any attempt to use this description to damage my reputation and portray me as a troublemaker.

I am 62 years old, a former Councillor, a father, and a community leader. I have served my people and understand the responsibilities that come with leadership.

The presence of another individual at the same location does not give anyone the right to physically attack me. Whether a person has consumed alcohol or not, every citizen has the right to safety and dignity under the law.

If there were any concerns about behaviour at the service station, the proper action was to report the matter to police or security personnel, not to use physical force.

2. Response Regarding Claims of Provocation and Insults

Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe stated that disrespectful and provocative remarks were made towards him.

I strongly reject the suggestion that I was looking for confrontation or trying to provoke an elected leader.

I did not go to Kamas Fuel Service Station to challenge Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe. I was already at the location when his convoy arrived.

As a senior citizen and former elected community representative, I understand that disagreements must be handled through discussion and respect, not through violence.

Words, political differences, or disagreements cannot justify physical assault.

3. Response Regarding the Allegation That He Did Not Assault Me

Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe stated that he did not deliberately seek out or intend to assault anyone.

However, I maintain my account that I was physically assaulted through punching and kicking.

I did not approach him. I did not follow his vehicle. I did not create a confrontation. The incident happened after he stopped his vehicle and approached me.

The matter has now been reported to Wabag Police Station, and I believe the proper authorities should investigate all evidence, including witness accounts, medical evidence, and any available recordings.

4. Response Regarding His Position as a Member of Parliament

Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe stated that he is committed to serving the people and respecting the law.

I acknowledge his position as the elected Member for Porgera-Paiela. However, leadership comes with greater responsibility and higher expectations.

A Member of Parliament represents thousands of people, including elderly citizens, former leaders, and ordinary people. The people expect their leaders to demonstrate patience, respect, and self-control.

An elected position should never be seen as a reason for a citizen to feel powerless when facing a dispute.

5. Response Regarding Equal Protection Under the Law

Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe correctly stated that no person is above the law.

I fully agree with this principle.

The same law that protects a Member of Parliament also protects an ordinary citizen, including a former Councillor and a senior father from Komaga Ward.

Therefore, I am asking for a fair and independent investigation without fear or favour.

The truth should not be decided by political influence, social media statements, or public pressure. The truth should be established through proper legal processes.

6. My Call to Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe

I call on Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe to respect the investigation process and cooperate with police.

As leaders, we must show our people that disputes can be solved peacefully through the law.

I also remind Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe that I am a father, just like him. I have children, family, and people who respect me. My dignity as a human being must also be respected.

7. Final Statement

This matter is not about political competition. It is about respect, accountability, and the rule of law.

Porgera-Paiela people deserve leaders who can demonstrate unity, peace, and maturity.

I have placed this matter in the hands of the authorities, and I trust that a fair investigation will reveal the truth.

I encourage our people to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course.

Allegations of Corruption and Misconduct in the Porgera Development Authority (PDA) Board Appointments

The integrity of our governance and the future of the Porgera Development Authority (PDA) are currently under grave threat. It has come to the attention of the community that serious, unethical, and potentially illegal maneuvers have been orchestrated by our TIKTOK & FACEBOOK Member of Parliament, Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe, regarding the recent appointment of the PDA Board of Directors.

Reliable reports indicate that a calculated effort was made to capture the PDA board for narrow, personal political interests. Specifically, it is alleged that:

Systemic Bribery: Hon. Gidron Karipe, allegedly with the direct involvement of his mother, distributed K10,000 to each councilor to guarantee their votes.

Political Cronyism: These payments were made to ensure the installation of the MP’s former campaign manager, HUTU KOPI, and other loyalists from the 2025 By-Election, rather than selecting individuals based on merit or the "fit and proper person" criteria.

Abuse of Office:This behavior is a flagrant violation of the trust placed in an elected representative. An MP’s mandate belongs to the entire electorate, not just those who supported his campaign.

The people of Porgera-Paiela demand that Hon. Gidron Karipe address these serious accusations immediately. By prioritizing the interests of his campaign staff over the interests of the public, the MP has betrayed the very people he was elected to serve. This is not leadership it is a betrayal of the democratic process.

The community is no longer standing by in silence. Legal action is currently being pursued to challenge the legitimacy of these appointments. We are seeking justice on behalf of the disadvantaged citizens of Paiela and Porgera whose development needs are being sidelined by these corrupt practices.

> The office of the Member for Porgera-Paiela is not a private enterprise to be manipulated for family or political gain. It is a public office that demands transparency, fairness, and absolute integrity.

> We call upon the relevant oversight bodies to investigate these allegations of bribery and to ensure that the PDA Board is composed of individuals who truly represent the welfare of our people, rather than the political machinery of one individual.

Hon. Girdron Maso Karipe is a legislator, not a Project Director or Operations Manager in New Porgera Limited/Gaps Construction.

He is a legislator and the voice of the people.

Look at his dressing, wearing a company uniform and trying to seek media attention. This is inappropriate dressing.

Local MPs are not allowed to wear corporate or company uniforms. This may fall under the strict laws of the PNG Leadership Code (Organic Law on the Duties and Responsibilities of Leadership) and the Ombudsman Commission guidelines.

The Porgera-Paiela District should look at our MP’s dressing, as it portrays who we are and our lifestyle.

REMOVE THE TAXES FOR IMMEDIATE FUEL TAX RELIEF

The Prime Minister Hon. James Marape must abandon his K1 billion fuel subsidy scheme and take prudent advice to apply a blanket removal of import duty, excise, and all applicable taxes on fuel imports. This is fiscally responsible, constitutionally sound, and an economically proven path to restoring affordable fuel for every Papua New Guinean.

The Prime Minister's K1 billion facility is constitutionally irregular. Section 209 of the Constitution is unambiguous: no public money shall be expended except under, and in accordance with, a parliamentary appropriation. PM Marape disclosed today that K576 million was sitting idle in the Central Bank trust account, however, this has never been authorised by Parliament. This is not a bureaucratic failure, as the Prime Minister frames it. It is the predictable consequence of operating outside the law.

The fiscal arithmetic is compelling. Currently, import duty (8%), excise levy (approximately K0.22 per litre), and GST (10%) collectively add an estimated K0.55 – K0.65 per litre to the pump price. At a retail price of approximately K4.20 per litre in Port Moresby, full tax removal would reduce the consumer price to approximately K3.55–K3.65 per litre — a saving of over 13% without a single kina leaving Treasury's operational budget.

This is not untested policy. When fuel prices surged globally in 2022, Australia temporarily halved its fuel excise, delivering immediate relief at the bowser. Indonesia eliminates fuel taxes on subsidised grades entirely, anchoring social stability. Ireland reduced excise on petrol and diesel to cushion households during the European energy crisis. The Opposition’s proposal is in national interest and demonstrates orthodox, evidence-based fiscal responses used by responsible governments worldwide.

The Prime Minister must humble himself and take this advice instead of trying to reinvent the wheel and apply voodoo economics that only makes matters worse, whilst being “Mr Right” and blaming the public service for his own incompetence.

Further, the Prime Minister's subsidy scheme is crowding out essential services. A K1 billion facility places pressure on government cashflow and diverts liquidity from health, education, police, and infrastructure. Compounded with debt interest repayments, the cash flow constraints kill essential services. This is the same government that cannot pay nurses on time, cannot pay teacher’s entitlements, cannot stock rural aid posts, and cannot maintain the Highlands Highway, and is trying to deploy K1 billion outside parliamentary oversight to manage a problem that tax policy could resolve at zero budgetary cost. It is time for the Prime Minister to humble himself and listen to sound advice.

The Prime Minister must choose: govern within the Constitution and deliver structural reform, or continue the cycle of improvised spending that creates crises, not solutions. Remove the taxes. Respect the Parliament. Protect the people.

Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe is semi-educated, just like Hon. Win Bakari Daki, who represents the Porgera-Paiela Open Seat on the floor of Parliament.

The people of Porgera-Paiela District want a better leader, not a TikTok leader who does not understand the laws and administration of Papua New Guinea.

The 2027 National General Election is a time for change. Hon. Win Bakari Daki, as the Member of Parliament, is incompetent, and Gidron Maso Karipe is also seen as incompetent by many people in Porgera-Paiela District.

The people of Porgera-Paiela District, need to elect a leader like Hon. James Nomane, Allan Bird and Hon. Lino, someone capable of representing us effectively on the floor of Parliament, not a Grade 12 dropout.

Hon. Gidron Maso Karipe, on your recent Facebook post, what do you mean by “Porgera Paramba”? Was this slogan previously used for PDDA? Also, why are you placing your stickers on the newly purchased machines? Those machines were not bought with your personal money, they belong to the people of Porgera-Paiela District.
