- "PEOPLE POWER: Koge Village Fixes Broken Bridge, Shames SSY DDA Inaction

In the heart of Suai LLG lies Koge village, hosting Koge Rural Hospital, Koge Parish Cathedral, and the primary school, situated close to Muaina Secondary School. The Three-Way Junction remains the main economic hub as the transit corridor for the tribal people of Suai.

This video taken at Koge Hospital shows people helping themselves when government services aren’t available. A bridge at Araul Nili was washed away 4 years ago, isolating Catholic education services and the tribes of Kere, Gebai, and Tabare.

The Catholic Bishop warned that the school would close, affecting 800+ students and teachers. The people took initiative, as the District DDA of SSY and Simbu Provincial Government struggled with landowner compensation demands and contractor failures.

The standoff denies basic services and risks children’s education—due to political games and contract networks in PSIP and DSIP disbursement. The people of Koge are fed up and fixing the bridge themselves.

The video shows them using a Toyota Land Cruiser, village leaders, and chiefs to drag 3x steel beams (20m long, 2 tons each) over 1km without cranes or forklifts.

A pity our people do this while the District Development Authority, works engineer, District CEO, and Member for Sina Sina Yongomug sit idle. Where are they?

- GUN CRISIS THREATENS PNG'S FUTURE: A CALL TO ACTION

Papua New Guinea is at a crossroads, facing a critical juncture in its history. The proliferation of illegal fi****ms poses an existential threat to the nation's peace, security, and very existence. With thousands of military-grade and homemade guns in circulation, the country is teetering on the brink of chaos.

According to experts, the presence of these deadly weapons is a ticking time bomb, waiting to unleash unimaginable violence across the country. The current approach to addressing the issue, which relies on peace mediations and witness protection, has proven ineffective. It's time for a new strategy.

"We need to reset our approach to tackling this crisis," says a senior security official. "It's not about mediation or witness protection; it's about law enforcement. We need to take a hard stance against those who possess and traffic these illegal guns."

The government has several options to address the crisis. Firstly, it can encourage voluntary surrender of illegal fi****ms. If this approach fails, the state security apparatus must be prepared to use force to extract these guns from circulation.

However, prevention is better than cure. Establishing an intelligence unit to track and intercept gun shipments, complemented by the Kumul 23 initiative, can help stem the flow of illegal fi****ms into the country. Offering rewards for successful confiscation of guns or gun financing can also incentivize informants to come forward.

The situation is dire, with undocumented refugees fleeing violence in neighboring countries and settling in PNG's towns and cities. The Highlands region, once the epicenter of tribal violence, is no longer the only hotspot. The entire country is at risk of implosion.

The Reset PNG @ 2050 initiative must prioritize this national security threat. If left unchecked, the stockpile of illegal guns will continue to grow, and the country may not survive the next 50 years.

It's time for PNG to take decisive action. The status quo is no longer acceptable. The government must act now to protect its citizens, enforce its laws, and defend its sovereignty. The future of PNG hangs in the balance.

Imila Bridge Collapse: Community Frustration Grows Over Delayed Repairs

The Imila Bridge in Abau, Central Province, collapsed after a semi-trailer attempted to cross, leaving travelers stranded and frustrated. While authorities work on repairs, locals are calling for the logging company responsible to take responsibility.

"Can the logging company build a new bridge at its own cost?" asks a frustrated resident. Others echo this sentiment, citing the impact on PMV owners and holiday plans.

Leaders are urged to act fast and hold the company accountable. "Our leaders know we'll accept what they give us, so services are slow," says another resident.

The bridge's collapse has highlighted concerns about infrastructure and accountability. Stay tuned for updates on repairs and efforts to address community concerns.

-Call for Help: Keimanda Gold Mining Seeks Expertise and Support

Local miners in Keimanda, Lumusa District, Western Highlands Province, are extracting gold using traditional methods, raising concerns about safety and environmental impact. The site has confirmed gold reserves, but the current operations are high-risk and unstructured.

Authorities are seeking qualified professionals, including geologists, mining engineers, and safety officers, to assess the site's potential and guide sustainable mining practices.

"We need support to ensure safe and professional mining methods, reduce risks, and protect the environment," says a local representative.

Interested parties, including investors and government agencies, are invited to collaborate and develop the site.
