DID YOU KNOW CROWS SEEK OUT ANTS WHEN THEY'RE SICK?
It might sound bizarre at first, but it is true: when crows feel unwell or irritated by parasites, they turn to ants for relief. These intelligent birds land on anthills, spread their wings, and sit still inviting the ants to crawl over their bodies, especially through their feathers. Why? Because ants release formic acid, a natural compound with powerful antimicrobial and antiparasitic properties. By allowing ants to swarm over them, crows essentially take a therapeutic bath that helps combat fungi, bacteria, and skin parasites.
This behavior is called "anting", and it's not unique to crows. Many bird species engage in it instinctively tapping into natureβs pharmacy to self-medicate.It is a beautiful reminder: wildlife often knows how to heal itself drawing on nature's chemistry long before humans ever bottled it. In this simple act, we see intelligence, instinct, and the elegant harmony between creatures and their environment.
