Following the conclusion of the five-day election reporting training, news journalists who participated in the training shared their insights, emphasizing on the need for more live debates by candidates during the national general elections.

“All participants have said it here, we do not normally see any live debates by politicians, facilitated by journalists. The only thing almost similar to this is watching the parliament sitting live. So that was something knew I learnt,” said reporter, Hazel Eiwa.

Tracking and blocking the circulation of explicit content and unsuitable online content in Papua New Guinea social media spaces remains a challenge. According to NICTA, its mandate only applies to cyberspaces it regulates such as websites, and not social media.
