Vertigo is defined as “a condition where a person is said to experience a general whirling sensation, capitalized by the tendency to lose balance and further compounded by the additional sensations of dizziness and or giddiness”. We like to think that the most obvious case in which one could experience this sensation would invariably come from the experience of heights. Remember that spinning sens
ation that came with the allure of looking down? I’d bet you felt that you could easily float away, or at best soar skyward just like an eagle. Oh but if only you could find the strength to let go of those ‘dammed’ rails that held you back, and just ‘push off’ into the comfort of free fall toward heaven. There’s that other thing called “the law of gravity”. Apparently, the rules of gravity don’t allow us the luxury of ‘free willed flight’. To do that we’d need to be Kryptonian and not Human. Instead, we are left with this rush that sees us palpitated on the edge as the world below us spins and whirls in an ever beckoning dance. The feeling is slightly hypnotic, in the sense that we begin to entertain the delusional. The fear of falling and the allure of flight, two sides of the same coin that we hold in our hand, will we spend it wisely or will we toss it into the wishing well of ‘fate’? Now that’s a far better definition of ‘Vertigo’ don’t you think? Welcome one and all to the first issue of Vertigo. The magazine in blog that you can read, comment like and share. Do just about anything you like with it as long as you ADD TO ITS POPULARITY PLEASE! With the rising trend in the use of social media sites, compounded by the increased use of mobile communications, it’s only natural that eventually somebody comes up with the idea to link the content based nature of leisure time publications with the accessibility of social media. If you haven’t already noticed, it’s a craze that’s taken over PNG completely. While there are others that are already using this medium to create online discussion groups on current issues and what not, we feel the need to supplement the online content in a direction that allows a true amalgamation of the characteristics of a magazine (not necessarily a news page) using the available resources at hand. Our content base is wide reaching, with no specific demographics in mind. And that’s the beauty of it. Were free in more ways than one, with the sole purpose to inform, entertain, inspire and generate positive change from our streets and villages, to our suburbs and constituencies, and our districts, provinces and ultimately to our country as a whole. Enjoy.
