Governor Allan Bird: “One Last Run – I Will Bow Out in 2027”.
By East Sepik Governor Allan Bird
Wednesday 13th of August, 2025.
My last run: 2027
After consultation with my key supporters in Sepik and around the country: I have decided to concede and run my last election.
Retirement should be a planned event. Everyone should leave on their own terms. No one should feel like they are God's gift to the country.
You do your job and you leave and make way for the next person. That's my belief.
No one lives forever and I feel that my job is complete.
In fact, I am ready to retire from Politics in 2027 because there is nothing left for me to do. I have achieved my political objective which was to demonstrate that a province can be turned around. I believe I have achieved that outcome.
My reasons for retiring were simple:
1. I had planned to serve for 10 years only. No more.
2. All of the milestones I set in Sepik have been achieved or will be completed by 2027.
3. I have been offered very attractive private sector opportunities which I had hoped to pursue.
However, I do have an obligation to the 127,414 people who gave me their first preference votes in 2022. They have asked me to contest again.
As a result, I chose to join a small party with a group of strongly principled and like minded MPs. An announcement will be made once formalities are completed at the end of this month.
I thank everyone for the many positive messages. I have heard you and I look forward to the support of all PNGans who desire a better future as we seek your mandate in 2027 to change the course of our country.
We do not subscribe to the big man, brinkmanship politics that the country has been subjected to in recent years. We believe in power sharing and equality for all our people.
We will be different to other political parties and our organisation will be managed online with complete transparency for our members.
We intend to disrupt the political structures and culture of corruption that keeps our people in bo***ge.
We will rebuild public confidence and restore the systems that have been eroded over recent years.
Thank you all for your support and patience.
