A Message to All Milne Bay People

To all Milne Bay people, especially the people of Alotau and surrounding mainland communities: please think carefully before selling or permanently giving away your customary land—our birthright and the inheritance we must protect for future generations.

Development is important, and the Connect PNG initiative can bring better roads, services, business opportunities, and economic growth to our province. However, development must not come at the cost of losing control of our ancestral land.

We must learn from what has happened in other growing cities, including Port Moresby. Let us develop our province while ensuring that our people remain the rightful owners and beneficiaries of our land.

Our land is our identity, our heritage, and our future. Once it is gone, it may be impossible to get it back.

Let us welcome development, investment, and people from all parts of Papua New Guinea—but let us also protect our customary land and make sure Milne Bay people are not left as strangers on their own land.

Protect our land. Protect our culture. Protect the future of our children. 🇵🇬🌴
