In an era where mobile connectivity is essential, enterprising individuals like Nicholas Nganining are tapping into the telecommunications market to secure a steady income.
Nganining, a 30-year-old freelance salesman from Morobe Province, is reaping the benefits of his hard work, earning between K400 and K500 per week through SIM card sales.
In an exclusive interview with PNG SUN, he shared his journey, challenges, and aspirations as a sales agent.
“I am the sales marketing team leader at Cellmoni,” he revealed, expressing excitement over his growing earnings.
He added that his biweekly wages often surpass K1000, a testament to the opportunities within the industry.
■Breaking Down the Earnings
Nganining detailed the commission structure behind each sale:
A single Digicel SIM card costs K1.
An additional K3 is earned through Digicel’s SIM registration.
Another K3 is added for promoting Cellmoni services.
This brings his total commission to K7 per SIM card, making sales a viable source of income for those willing to put in the effort.
With Papua New Guinea's increasing demand for mobile services, Nganining's story highlights how driven individuals can carve out a sustainable livelihood in the telecommunications sector.
■Encouraging the Youth
Beyond his personal success, Nganining is passionate about inspiring others, especially the younger generation, to seek out similar opportunities.
“There are many opportunities out there, but young people often waste their time in the streets. Even the simplest jobs can earn money to put food on the table,” he advised.
As he continues to grow his business, Nganining remains optimistic about the future, proving that persistence and resourcefulness can turn small ventures into sustainable income streams.
