Justice for Christel: Killed by the Man Sworn to Protect Her.
By Ludy Enos | Monday August 4, 2025 |
Her name was Christel. She was a daughter, a niece, a friend, a proud woman of Biranis Village in Madang. She had dreams, laughter in her voice, and the kind of strength that lit up every room she walked into. But all of that was stolen, from her, and from us.
Christel was married to an older man, a senior Task Force policeman from Jiwaka, based at Sagalau. A man sworn to protect. But on that terrible morning, between 5:00 am and 8:00 am, he became the very thing we fear the most. Drunk and violent, he beat her mercilessly, punching and kicking her until she could no longer stand, sit, or speak. She lay there, helpless, broken, and in pain.
Neighbors, hearing her cries, tried to help. But he waved a gun at them and threatened to shoot anyone who came close. So they watched in horror. Powerless. Silenced by fear.
Christel was finally taken to the hospital, but it was too late. She died from the injuries he inflicted. Her body now lies in the morgue. Cold. Alone.
And yet, where is the outcry? Where is the media? Where is the justice?
Why is Christel’s name not making headlines, like Janelyn Kennedy, and Ruby Laufa from the Namaliu case? Why is this death being hushed when it should be shaking the foundations of our nation?
Christel’s death is not just a tragedy, it is a mirror reflecting the deep rot in our system where some are protected not by law, but by silence and power.
We, her family, are speaking out. We will not be silenced. We want the people of Papua New Guinea to hear Christel’s name and feel what we feel: rage, grief, and a fire for justice.
No woman should ever be brutalised like this, especially by someone wearing a uniform of authority. This man must not walk free. He must be investigated, arrested, and tried. If the system fails her, then we have failed every woman in this country.
We demand media coverage. We demand accountability. And we demand justice, not just for Christel, but for every woman whose pain has been ignored.
Let her name be known
Let her story be heard.
Let her death not be in vain.
Justice for Christel.
