Papua New Guinea’s tourism industry has massive untapped potential, yet many of our leaders continue focusing mainly on oil, gas, and mining — resources that will eventually run out. Instead of only chasing quick money today, we should also invest in industries that can sustain our people and economy for generations to come.
Look at places like Dubai. They used their oil wealth to build a world-class destination that now attracts millions of tourists and investors from around the world. Tourism became one of the biggest drivers of their economy. PNG can do the same if we start prioritizing infrastructure, security, airports, hospitality, roads, and promotion of our unique culture and natural beauty.
This picture is a perfect example of the kind of opportunity tourism can bring to PNG. That stunning aircraft is a Gulfstream business jet owned by TMNN Manager LLC, flying all the way from Las Vegas 🇺🇸 to land right here at Gurney Airport in Alotau 🇵🇬❤️
That is not just an aircraft landing — it is proof that international visitors are interested in our country. When tourism grows, it brings high-value visitors directly into our provinces, creating income for local guest houses, tour operators, transport services, markets, restaurants, cultural groups, and small businesses.
PNG is blessed with some of the most beautiful islands, cultures, oceans, mountains, and traditions in the world. If we invest properly in tourism today, we can create a sustainable future for tomorrow.
It’s time for leadership that thinks beyond temporary resource projects and starts building long-term opportunities for our people. ✊
