Prime Minister, with respect, many Papua New Guineans are asking a fair question: why is so much energy being spent chasing rugby league dreams while the country faces real economic and social hardship?
People are struggling with:
Rising cost of living
Unemployment
Poor roads and basic services
Law and order problems
Health system shortages
Education challenges
Growing national debt
Sport can unite a nation, yes. But unity without jobs, safety, and economic stability is temporary.
If tax-free incentives and government attention can be offered to attract foreign players and officials, why can’t the same urgency be shown to:
support local businesses
create youth employment
strengthen hospitals
fix power and water supply
improve policing
invest in agriculture and SMEs
Papua New Guinea does not need to be sold through rugby league alone. It should be sold through good governance, security, strong institutions, and opportunity for its own people.
The real challenge is this: Will history remember this government for building stadium dreams, or for solving the everyday struggles of ordinary Papua New Guineans?
