History in Brief: Sir Michael Thomas Somare GCL GCMG CH CF SSI KStJ KSG PC (9 April 1936 – 25 February 2021) was a Papua New Guinean politician. Widely called the "father of the nation" he was the first Prime Minister after independence. Somare was also the longest-serving prime minister, having been in office for 17 years over three separate terms: from 1975 to 1980; from 1982 to 1985; and from 2002 to 2011. His political career spanned from 1968 until his retirement in 2017.

Sir Pita Lus - Born: September 16, 1935, Maprik ; Died: October 1, 2021 (age 86 years). PNG turns 50 on the same day that Sir Pita Lus was born. When we celebrate this 50th Anniversary let's remember these two great men - Sir Michael and Sir Pita.

Sir Pita Lus KBE was an outspoken Papua New Guinean politician who played an important role in the country's independence in 1975 and is credited with having persuaded Michael Somare, the country's first prime minister, to run for parliament. Here, the Big Bird follows their steps. A sign of vision and direction shown here. This signifies that the institutions of our nation and the liberty of our nation should be protected.

Corruption within state institutions, particularly in Papua New Guinea, manifests in various forms, including bribery, misappropriation of public funds, and the misuse of the "wantok" system for personal gain. This corruption undermines the legitimacy of state institutions, erodes public trust, and hinders development, and encourages lawlessness.

There is no guarantee to the protection of the law in our free country called Papua New Guinea. Human life seem to have no value. The law sometimes is compromised, and the law sometimes is too late to protect human life. The so-called life and dead are on our own hands.

This is not what our Founding Fathers wished it to be in this time of the future - our time. They wanted free, fair, and just society. This 50th Anniversary is a time of reflection. Jikanda Photography

A truly remorseful partner takes responsibility for their actions without shifting blame or making excuses. Their apologies have substance, speaking to the harm done and a deep understanding of their betrayal.// Jikanda Photography
