Looking Beyond 2027 with PRP: Government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Papua New Guinea (PNG) is a democratic parliamentary state, which means the people have the power to choose their leaders through elections. The government’s authority comes from the people, and it is expected to serve the people’s needs.

Government of the people:
PNG’s government is made up of elected representatives — ordinary citizens chosen by their communities to serve in the National Parliament.

Government by the people:
Every five years, citizens vote in national elections to select their Members of Parliament (MPs). This process ensures that the government operates through the will of the people.

Government for the people:
The purpose of the government is to promote peace, development, and equality, ensuring services such as education, health, and infrastructure reach all citizens.

In short, this phrase reflects the spirit of democracy that PNG follows — where the people are the foundation, the decision-makers, and the beneficiaries of government action.//

“Tribal fighting in Enga has claimed many innocent lives and destroyed communities. What began as disputes between clans has turned into violence that affects everyone, especially women and children. Rest in eternal peace to those innocent loved ones who've lost their lives. Those cherished moments will be missed, but they will remain in our hearts forever.”

Allan Bird Launches People’s Reform Party, Calls for “Hard Reset PNG”

Sunday, 31st August 2025

East Sepik Governor and Member of Parliament, Hon. Allan Bird, has officially unveiled his new political movement, the People’s Reform Party, calling on Papua New Guineans to take “an act of bravery” and join a movement for real change.

In announcing the party, Mr. Bird said Papua New Guinea needs a hard reset to address the country’s persistent challenges in governance, accountability, and service delivery.

“It’s time for a hard reset, PNG. Our people deserve better –better leadership, better systems, and better outcomes. The People’s Reform Party is about creating a future that works for everyone,” Mr. Bird said.

The launch was accompanied by the release of a campaign website, https://actofbravery.com, which outlines the party’s vision and invites citizens to get involved in shaping the reform agenda.

Governor Bird emphasized that joining the movement is an act of courage, a step toward building a nation founded on integrity, fairness, and opportunity for all.

My Personal View on the Pukpuk Treaty

In my personal view, the Pukpuk Treaty between Papua New Guinea and Australia is an important agreement that strengthens the relationship between the two countries. It focuses on defense cooperation, security, and mutual support in times of crisis. I believe this treaty is good for PNG because it helps improve our national security, provides access to training and resources, and promotes peace in the Pacific region.

However, I also think it is important for PNG to maintain its independence and decision-making power. The treaty should be built on mutual respect and equality so that both nations benefit fairly. Overall, I see the Pukpuk Treaty as a positive step towards a safer and stronger partnership between PNG and Australia.

The Pukpuk Treaty helps PNG build a stronger, better-trained, and better-equipped Defence Force, while also improving friendship and cooperation with Australia.

I believe the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) should be on par with other military forces in the region. Having a strong and well-trained military is important for protecting our country’s borders, resources, and people.

The Pukpuk Treaty with Australia can help PNG reach that level by providing training, modern equipment, and technical support. However, PNG must also invest more in its own defence system to become self-reliant and capable. A strong and independent military will give PNG greater confidence and respect among its neighboring countries and also, internally, by its own citizens.//
