BREAKING NEWS | WEWAK, EAST SEPIK PROVINCE
The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) in Wewak, in collaboration with soldiers of 2nd Royal Pacific Islands Regiment (2RPIR), have commenced a strengthened security operation across Wewak and surrounding communities.
This operation is aimed at curbing illegal activities, including the production and consumption of homebrew, unlawful sale and consumption of alcohol, and all forms of criminal behavior during the Christmas festive period.
The public is strongly advised—especially youths and community members—to remain law-abiding and refrain from engaging in any illegal activities. Alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited during this period, and offenders will be dealt with according to the full force of the law.
Once apprehended, excuses will not be entertained. Prevention is better than regret.
Let us all work together to maintain peace, safety, and order throughout the festive season.

latest happening REPORTING — WESTERN HIGHLANDS PROVINCE

Good morning, Papua New Guinea.
I am reporting to you from Western Highlands Province, where important developments are unfolding regarding the Local Level Government elections.
Across the country, several provinces have already completed their voting, counting, and declaration of winners for Councilors, LLG Presidents, and Mayors. However, today marks a major turning point for Western Highlands as the province moves into the decisive stage of electing its LLG presidents and the Provincial Town Mayor.
Here in Western Highlands, councilor elections have already been completed, and winners have officially been declared. With that phase finalized, the spotlight now shifts to the election of the president for each LLG and the mayor for the provincial town.
As of this morning, all elected councilors contesting for the President’s position have moved into their respective camps, together with the councilors committed to voting for them. These camps are being used as strategic bases as the numbers are consolidated ahead of the final vote.
In preparation for today’s proceedings, the Western Highlands Provincial Headquarters — widely known as Mara House — has been fully closed to business. Roads leading to the building are now blocked off to ensure a safe and undisturbed environment for the president and mayor elections to take place.
Authorities have advised that normal operations at Mara House will resume next week, Monday, 8 December 2025.

Polye was taken into custody by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) over charges including attempting to pervert the course of justice, conspiring to defraud, official corruption, and misappropriation of K1.7 million from the PNG Sports Foundation.

Following his arrest, Polye appeared at the Waigani District Court, where his lawyer applied for bail. The court granted bail of K50,000, and Polye was released later the same night under strict conditions.

Only after justice is demanded can we talk about what happened —
What happened to those two young Unitech girls and the Grade 12 boy is not just tragic — it is a horrifying crime against innocent lives.
To say it was “related to the councilor election” is a disgraceful, lazy, and empty explanation. These councilors are not feeding anyone, they are not serving communities, and they are not worth anyone dying for. To kill in the name of useless politics is pure stupidity and wickedness.
These young people were full of dreams and potential. Their parents sacrificed everything so they could study, grow, and build a future. And now their lives have been burned to ashes by people who have no respect for life.
The families deserve the truth.
The community deserves answers.
The public demands accountability.
This happened inside the same community — someone saw it. Someone knows exactly what took place. Keeping quiet is just as evil as committing the act itself.
We demand justice for these innocent souls.
Their stories cannot end this way.
Their deaths cannot go unanswered.
Enough is enough. Justice must speak and it must speak loudly.
