From the 'balustrade' of the Pacific to 126 years of heritage. 🛶✨
Did you know that the name Alabat comes from a Tagalog word for 'balustrade' or 'railing'?
Legend says it originated when a local was asked by American soldiers about the place while he was making a wooden railing! Long before that, the island was the ancestral home of Inagta - the OG community of the island. Moreover the Inagta dialect. The island was originally known as 'Gordo' (Fat) due to its shape, and 'Barcelona' as Don Pedro Pica connotes the Spanish Nostalgia and Colonial history. Alabat was officially established as a town in May 15, 1900.
Today, we celebrate over a century of resilience, rich culture, and the breathtaking beauty of our island home.
Happy 126th Founding Anniversary, Alabat! 🌊🏝️
