In 2016, at the Sayran reservoir in Almaty, Kazakhstan, a dog fell into the water and could not climb back up because the concrete embankment was too steep and slippery. A young man climbed down to save it, but after reaching the dog, he also became trapped. Bystanders then formed a human chain, linked arms, and pulled both the man and the dog back to safety. That rescue was widely shared online at the time.
A decade later, that moment of teamwork and compassion was permanently honored in the same city. In March 2026, Almaty unveiled a metal art installation inspired by the rescue, capturing the human chain that saved both the dog and the young man. The statue was created as a tribute to unity and the instinct of ordinary people to help when someone is in danger, turning a viral moment from 2016 into a lasting public memorial.
