Mambugan National High School held a Symposium on Su***de Prevention Awareness and the Child Protection Act yesterday, September 16. The program reminded everyone that reaching out and talking about oneโ€™s feelings is okayโ€”it is not a crime to ask for help, but a step towards healing.

I used to think that excellence was the only path to survival, that my worth lived and died within the numbers printed on a report card. Every test score, every assignment, every remark from a teacher became a measure of whether I was enough. I chased after perfect grades as if my life depended on them, sacrificing sleep, time, and even my own peace of mind. There were nights when I stayed awake until the world outside my window was already stirring, and mornings when I dragged myself into class with heavy eyes but a forced determination. I convinced myself that this was what it meant to succeedโ€”to squeeze out every drop of energy I had, to dry myself to the core, all for the satisfaction of gathering a few droplets of recognition.

But excellence is a hunger that never rests. No matter how much I gave, it always demanded more. Each achievement lost its shine the moment it was earned, replaced by the looming shadow of the next challenge. The cycle was endless, and slowly, I began to notice the toll it was taking on me. I was exhausted, not only in body but in spirit. I was chasing something I could never fully hold, burning myself out in the process.

Then came the realization, quiet but undeniable: I donโ€™t have to always be well. Excellence does not mean breaking myself to appear flawless. It is not about sacrificing every part of who I am for a grade that will fade into the past. True excellence, I began to understand, is not about perfection but persistence. It is the ability to keep moving forward even when I stumble, to keep learning even when I pause, and to value myself not just for what I produce, but for who I am becoming.

And when I think about the future, I find myself whispering a silent wish: I hope my daughter gets my eyes, and not the need I feel to make things look effortless when it actually takes everything Iโ€™ve got. I hope she learns earlier than I did that it is okay to be human, that her strength will not come from hiding her struggle but from embracing it. I hope she understands that excellence is not the absence of flaws but the courage to keep trying despite them.

Because now I know I am not a machine. I am a person allowed to rest, allowed to falter, and allowed to simply exist without always being at the top of everything. My value is not bound to a score or a medal or a ranking. My worth does not decrease when I choose balance over burnout. And maybe, just maybe, the best legacy I can pass down is not the illusion of effortlessness, but the truth that we do not always have to be well to be enough.

September is Su***de Prevention Month, and it's the perfect time to remind each other that it's okay to not be okay and that you don't always have to be strong, you don't have to carry the heaviness alone and you're not weak for asking for help.

Mental health struggles can feel extremely heavy but behind those tough battles, everyone should be seen properly and receive support by those around them.

And if you are fighting these problems, just remember that you are loved, you are valued and you're worth alot more than you think you are. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™

Teacherโ€”respectable, educated, professional. How ironic that people see us as something that great, and yet, I could still feel small being a teacher. Have I romanticized teaching too much to the point that I justify the bare minimum of a treatment and recognition I receive, merely because this profession is considered noble?

People say that when it comes to love, you do not look for it as it will naturally come to you. Teaching was never my top choice but there were signs when I was a kid that I probably manifested so hard that lead me down this path. Teaching was never my top choice and yet, here I am, currently, a teacher. Iโ€™ve grown to love teaching, with all its perks and flaws. I must say it was nice to fall in love. But love is not enough. Maybe this is a โ€œmeโ€ problem, because as perfect as it sounds, loving something is not enough for me to stay.

Right now, I find myself consumed by teaching and not in a good way. I realized that the longer I am here, the more it could take over my life. I was never a workaholic. However, on my free time or vacations, it seems like my body got used to working to the point that it became my bodyโ€™s default. I am at the point where I find my personal life uninteresting, and that teaching has unknowingly became my hobby. It seems like teaching has become a part of my system and once I stop, my mind and body would probably stop functioning too.

Is this lovesickness?

Tell me this is not the early symptoms of being โ€œmarriedโ€ to my job. If it is, please recommend a doctor or a therapist who would tell me I am not fit for this marriage. The lack of words of affirmation from this job is already a deal-breaker. Thatโ€™s my love language, after all.

When you become a teacher, you are expected to recognize and praise students in class. How ironic, when teachers are not praise and appreciated enough except on Teachersโ€™ Month. The lack of recognition is one thing, but the lack of support? The gaslighting? Those are enough reasons to let go.

It seems like we are always under the microscopeโ€”for them to find flaws so they could put the blame on us. Teachers hold the smallest position in this system but carry the heaviest responsibility. We are treated as pawnsโ€”something that they can use as a shield, can be discarded anytime, and hold accountable in this rotten system. Nothing is โ€œmoreโ€ noble than becoming a sacrificial lamb. From reading comprehension to mathematical skills, the sole responsible for the decline of education in the Philippines is none other thanโ€”teachers. As if we arenโ€™t already doing enough. If this is the commitment that I get from the moment I took my oath, this is the time I should consider that this so-called marriage is a sham.

Teachers are too soft-hearted for this world. We could easily be swayed with promises that are too far to be true. Or maybe not. Itโ€™s not because we are not entitled for a better compensation, but we, just like any other Filipinos, are denied of such opportunities because of greed.

With all these reasons, the feeling of not being โ€œenoughโ€ and the constant doubt whether this is really what I want is overpowering. There could be better opportunities out there, but why am I still here?

Itโ€™s for the kids.

They are the constant reminder that I have to stay. Despite the burnout and constant crying due to exhaustion, my heart โ€” still filled with love and hope, yearns that someday, these kids will bring that change weโ€™ve been hoping for.

Not being a hopeless romantic, but a teacher can dream. I could still hope for a future where I wonโ€™t have second thoughts about being committed to a profession I once dreamed of. The love is still there, but sometimes, when reality hits, the doubts will hold you back and keep you from pursuing a lifetime commitment.

Teacherโ€”loving, enduring, and hopeful. Even though I am constantly reminded of how hard it is to be a teacher, I would choose to stayโ€”for now. But the feeling of yearning and hoping for something better would still linger.

Liliana, a college student, carries a burden she never asked for, hidden behind every laugh. Today is Su***de Prevention Monthโ€”and she is just trying to survive another day.

While scrolling through her phone, Radiohead's song Let Down appeared in her feedโ€”a song about fragility and the yearning to grow wings. โ€ she whispers, then laughs. But her voice breaks, betraying the ache she has been holding all along.

Victims are told to stay silentโ€”that talking about su***de is taboo. Attempting it is already a crime, as if society was never the cause. Based on Philstarโ€™s data, almost 2,000 su***de cases were recorded from January to June 2025.

Liliana stares at her beige ceiling, its edges lined with dust. Wondering. Doubting. Hoping. How many of them ever wondered why discussing what they were going through was considered immoral, while being treated unfairly was dismissed as โ€œjust how life goesโ€?

They grew wings, but chose to fall. They stayed in their chrysalis, not because they couldnโ€™t flyโ€”but because flying hurt more than dying. She cut off her thoughts.

That night, she couldnโ€™t sleep. She was drowning in thoughts, lost in sorrow. โ€ she whispered. Hesitating, yet certain. She didnโ€™t want to suffer anymoreโ€”but was this the only way?

She planned, took the rope from the cabinet and the chair from downstairs. Every step she took, every breath she drew, felt like feathers plucked from her wingsโ€”feathers she wasnโ€™t even sure she had. She tried to convince herself: you canโ€™t miss what you never hadโ€”but sometimes, you long for what should have been yours.

She remembered a recent study: su***de is among the top three causes of death worldwide. โ€œ๐˜ˆ๐˜บ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฌ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜ด๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ข ๐˜ฅ๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ,,โ€ she said, collapsing to the floor.

Slowly, she stood and looked at herself in the full-length mirror by the chair. Messy. Chaotic. Suicidal. She didnโ€™t want to stand anymore. But she still did.

Liliana stood in front of the full-length mirror, messy, chaotic, suicidalโ€”but still standing. Her reflection was a tangle of despair and determination, a fragile reminder that she had not yet let go.

Suddenly, her phone rang. It was her family.

โ€ her motherโ€™s voice asked, warm and concerned.

Her heart skipped. Words faltered on her lips. She swallowed, trying to mask the storm inside. โ€œ๐˜–๐˜ฌ๐˜ข๐˜บ ๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฐ, ๐˜”๐˜ข,โ€ she whispered, but the tremor in her voice betrayed her.

Talking. Even this small conversation was a lifeline. According to the World Health Organization, over 700,000 people die by su***de every year, making it one of the leading causes of death globallyโ€”yet reaching out, even in small ways, can make a life-changing difference.

Liliana listened as her family spokeโ€”about their day, little jokes, reminders to eat, to rest. Each word, each care, tied to her wings, helping her remember she wasnโ€™t alone. She realized that surviving wasnโ€™t just about holding on for herselfโ€”it was about letting others hold on to her too.

She hung up, took a deep breath, and allowed herself to feel: messy, scared, yet still standing. And for the first time in a long while, her wings didnโ€™t feel entirely plucked.

Liliana opened her window to the night air. The breeze felt like a soft reminder that she was still here, still breathing, still choosing to continue.

She remembered the rope, the chair, the darkness that had nearly claimed her. But she also remembered the callโ€”her familyโ€™s voices, warm and insistent, tethering her to life.

Slowly, she began to unpack the weight she had carried for so long. Each thought she faced, each tear she shed, became a feather she reclaimed. They werenโ€™t perfect wingsโ€”not yetโ€”but they were hers.

According to the Department of Health, mental health support and timely intervention can significantly reduce su***de risk, showing that even small stepsโ€”talking, listening, reaching outโ€”can save lives.

Liliana reached out to her pocket, pulling her phone out. The song Let Down by Radiohead stumbled in her feed again. But this time it's different.

As the celebration of Buwan ng Wika drew to a close, the Mambugeรฑos were treated to a showcase of talent, culture, and artistry during the culminating and awarding ceremonies held at Mambugan National High School.

The program recognized the outstanding students who emerged victorious in various competitions such as The winners once again took the stage to perform their award-winning pieces, a spectacle that proved worthy of their hard-earned first-place titles.

Following the recognition of the student-participants, the spotlight turned to the teachers who took part in a singing contest. Their lively performances ignited the crowd with cheers and applause, proving that the celebration of culture and talent transcends generations.

School officials highlighted that while Buwan ng Wika 2025 has ended, the pursuit of preserving and enriching Filipino culture does not stop. Instead, it serves as another milestone in the communityโ€™s continuing commitment to excellence in the arts and heritage.

The Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) serves as the frontline in the fight against drugs in the Philippines. It works on prevention, education, rehabilitation, and coordination with agencies like Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)

A recent seminar at Siruna Covered Court highlighted how drug use increases the risk of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Guest speakers Mr. Dominador Coronado and Mr. Josel B. Aguirre explained how shabu, ma*****na, and new drugs like Tuklaw harm both the body and the community. Tuklaw, often sold in e-cigarette cartridges for around โ‚ฑ1,500, has been linked to paralysis, coma, hallucinations, and brain damage. The World Health Organization (WHO) is still taking its time in considering Tuklaw as an illegal drug, but probably due to its unverified effects, there's a high chance for it to be considered illegal.

Speakers also showed how drug use spreads HIV. Sharing syringes and risky sexual behavior are common among users. To fight this, the Department of Health (DOH) provides antiretroviral treatment while Antipolo City Anti-Drugs Abuse Council (ACADAC) runs prevention programs in the city.

The law is clear. Under R.A. 9165, selling drugs leads to life imprisonment and fines of up to โ‚ฑ1,000,000. Possession or use also carries heavy penalties. For minors, diversion programs through the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) replace jail time.

BADAC also protects youth by enforcing curfews and running education campaigns. These efforts help young people avoid drugs and understand the risks of HIV.

The fight against drugs is not only about arrests. It is about health, prevention, and second chances. In every barangay, BADAC is where this fight begins.

A symposium on rabies prevention and control, along with responsible pet ownership, was conducted at Mambugan National High School on September 2, 2025 by Dr. Angelica Martinez and her team of experts. She began by showing a video that demonstrated how rabies affects the human body once it enters. She then explained what rabies is, the doโ€™s and donโ€™ts, and most importantlyโ€”how to be a responsible pet owner.

Later, they conducted a fun activity with student volunteers: role-playing various situations, such as what to do, and what not to do, when a dog is chasing you. This made the seminar not only educational and informative but also engaging and enjoyable.
